View Full Version : Who is going to be the bolter this year?

In 2002 Megastar took his chance and has played just about every game since.
In 2003 it was Sir Robert Haddrill & The ogre who stepped up and siezed their chance.
Who will it be in 2004?

My money is on Ryley Dunn.

Scott Thornton & Andrew Browne.

Don't know about Thornton, but I do agree with Kenny on Browne. Dunn, being a first year will be given time and doesn't need to "seize his chance" just yet, although I think he will be given a fair amount of game time. His year will be 2005.

(I know Medders was a first year when he grabbed his opportunity, but he was a more mature aged recruit who needed to make an impact sooner rather than later. Which he did. And I love him for it. ;) ).

Definitely Andrew Browne

I think Thornton will establish himself in defence and hopefully Polly will be a consistent marking option up forward.

Why not Thornton IP? Everytime he played last year, I couldn't help but be impressed. I definitely think he will establish himself in our 22 this season.

I don't know really. Gut feeling, women's intuition... something about him says (to me) that he's not quite up to it. We'll see as the year progresses. I am quite happy to be wrong on it!

Scotty has impressed me with his seemingly un ruffled approach and has not done anything wrong.

I like Andrew Browne's hard at it style as well.

I was thinking more along the lines of players new to the club, not ones that have been on the list for a while.

If i wanted to get technichal i would claim Clive as new as he's played FA in the last few seasons.:D

It was just a chance to mention the great mans name.

TLo, with an injury free season he will become a very important cog.

IMO Dunn will be the tear away this coming season, but I also expect Desy to take the next step up.

It's gotta be Ryley Dunn-good then. The boy looks like he's ready made and with a few games under his belt and and a bit of confidence I think we'll see him have a real crack.

Peake for the smokey.

How has he been looking at training IP?

Out of the new young fellas - Dunn and Peake have been the most impressive, and the ones to really catch my eye.

Seriously, Dunn looks ready made and much older than 18 in his body size and shape. Peake is not so big, but seems quick and was getting a lot of the ball during the short scratch match I watched. Doesn't appear scared to lay a tackle either.

Thanks IP , that has cheered me up no end.

Dunn looks great but I wouldn't expect too much from him this season. A Schammer like cameo season perhaps.

Hopefully Dessie will take the next step up, no reason why he shouldn't. I'm expecting good things from him.

Also, I think J Lo should finally have a good consistant all round season... well atleast I hope so.

And it will be great if T Lo gets in form and consolidates himself in our 22.

I'm still mainly looking forward to seeing the improvement from Thornton and Browne though.

Medhurst to have a belter, moving close to elite territory. Also, Headland to regain some of his 2002 form and Sandilands to begin his ascent to football superstardom.

Is McPharlin fit?

I reckon he'll go close to AA honors if he plays for the entire year.

McPharlin is fit, fast and firing. Let's hope he stays that way all season.

It appears that he is fit Buzz. He should go well with a preseason under his belt for the first time.

Buzz

It is Luke "Run Like The Wind" McPharlin ...and I agree such an important lynch pin to our defence.

I've been singing his praises for a while, but Ryley Dunn will be a very capable AFL player, and if injury free, could make an impact for us as soon as this year. He addresses both our problems of pace and 'in and under' in the midfield.

Ripper, if these players all make AA, we will win the flag.

Ripper, tell me about it. Getting Cousins, Gardiner, Wirrpunda, Matera, Kerr and Embley to the ceremony is going to play havoc with our finals preparations.

Kenny is on the money vis-a-vis Dirty Deeds. He will slip into it Schammer style - 60% of the games, 60% of the training. He will be running off the halfbackline - one of Connolly's central ideas being that you put your speedy players there to create run and generate play.

Obviously he will be working into the midfield as well - contemporary play being what it is - but don't expect him to be doing too much clearance work straight away.

Son of Peake has impressed at training but still needs to get some meat on his bones.

The thought struck me as I put the names down that we would have an allright season if those players made AA.

The thing is they are all capable if all goes well of being in contention.

Based on the Elimination Final, when he comes back from injury I say Luke Webster.
