Its that time of the year again.:D It would appear that the Crows will play Port in a "Trial Showdown" at Kadina in a couple of weeks. Since there was a talk of continuing on with last years Showdown between the boards, I thought I would start a thread to see what our coach (Jars458), captain (ant) and vice-captain (Kane McGoodwin) think about geting some match fitness before the real stuff starts.

Are we going to do this thing or not??????:)

Here is a link to what was a heart breaking loss:(

How well I remember it!! :( That good old expression and excuse "we were robbed" springs to mind straight away. ;)

Off memory, I got a couple of goals up forward in that match, but I think I'm needed in the middle this year to offset the brilliance of Macca19 who got BOG in that game.

Put me in the middle please coach, and let him chase my tail this year!!! :D

I have been working my backside off during pre-season and I am putting my hand up to play centre. I got a V8 engine now:D

Nooooo!! That wasn't me!! I did suffer severe concussion from a quarter time pat on the bum from _espoir though - remember??? :D

I'm not sure you can go with Macca19 Stiffy, but okay - I'll put my hand up for first rover changing up forward then. I got a bit starved of action last year!!

The positioning will be up to our coach. I am sure he has got the white board going as we speak. He will have us primed for this.

I'm all for some fitness work and some match practice before the Showdown re-match with the mob from further down the page.

I expect the narrow loss last year has burned in the guts of everyone associated with the Club and we should all be doing our utmost to reverse the result.

Personally, as captain, I've tried to set a good example and I'm well and truly into my pre-season training. And I'm pretty sure Jars is doing his bit by downing copious amounts of the amber fluid...what a coach, there's nothing he wouldn't do for the cause.

Our preparations begin in earnest now.

The first rule is there is to be no socialations with teh opposite sex, especially espoir as I feel this really took our focus off the game

Yes, this means YOU Stiffy;)

Please put in your prefernces for positions and a short spiel as to why you should be good for the team.

On a personal note I appreciate the faith shown in me after last years loss, however I will put my balls on the line and state that if we lose this year I will retire from Fantasy Footy Coaching:D

INJURIES and SUSPENSIONS
Port Adelaide:
Scott - 2 weeks - suspension (unduly rough play)

That narrow loss hurt the squad for the rest of the season! :( Hopefully we can improve with a West Coast like Thrashing of the Port tribe! :)

I missed out last year...damm SANFL practise matches. I'll put my hand up if anyone backs out of this years though! I dont think anyone will, but may as well try! Plus I have no attraction to _espoir so I'm sure I'll keep focussed on the match! ;)

Position style played: defensive, midfield

And Jars, it's a very courageous act, putting your coaching career on the line for this one match. In much the same vein, I too would like to place my head, and my captaincy, on the chopping block. If we can't pull this one off, I'll call it a day and watch future Showdowns from the stands.

Yes, this means YOU Stiffy;) Yes Coach.

I am not socialising with the opposite sex. I have been on an exteremely tough pre-season fitness program. I have smashed my previous PB time in 5 km time trial and a run up to Mt Lofty. I know have a V8 engine and as a result I am taking the challenge hand on. I put up my hand to play in the centre and take on an extremely good opponent in Macca19.

I will spill my guts out on the field for a showdown victory. If it means I have to clean up Pred and Porthos, I will happily do that too:D:p

...but still NO!

What is with this obsession you have about hating Brent?! pfft! He's not that bad! He's kinda nice once you really think about it...I mean..he has the nice parents, the 'ok' house, the footballing ability, the beautiful new silver Holden Astra, the I.T knowledge (god knows whether he reads these posts   ) and of course, as I mentioned, the X appeal!

If Angel Eyes doesn't object could I please have #10 this year. There is something about that number I like.;)
Also shouldn't we find a spot for Still Crowing.
I'm not 100% sure Dogwatcher is a Crows fan:eek: Although being a Central supporter his natural hatred of all things Port Adelaide might be enough!

I am flabbergasted  after just about being our best player in the last showdown ( 12k 8 hb & 2 goals ) i find myself unable to make the team :(

never thought "age" discrimination would reach BigFooty.

shall now bury for good my "ankle" footy boots that had served me so well in over 40 years of playing the game.

Oh of course. That is fine with me! :)
If theres no objections...I think the double of that one....#20, would suit me just fine! :)

And glad to see the bribing of the captain has worked!;)

Jerome, I think coach has me down for no. 34, but I'm not partial to it, so it's all yours.

I'll take any other number that's free.

Seeing as I had number 26 last year, and seeing as I've been married to the same Pirie girl for 12 years and want to stay married to her, I want a new number please coach. :D
