well i dont think i have to say who he is, but for those who dont know its Joseph Gutnick.

should he stay as prez or not, taking into account that earlier this evening he resigned, and in 6 weeks time all members (over 18) will vote as to whether he comes on back as prez or not?

1) Don't believe the smokescreen & mirors put up by Stockdale & Co. - in regards to Joe wanting to apparently rule this club. Joe never had an opputunity to elect his own board - & rather than the prcieved erception that he wants to flush out traitors, he just wants to run on his own ticket which all presidents get to do...

2) Joe wants a club run by members for members - if Stockdale & Co. are correct is saying he's a dictator then take a look at the other clubs
Sydney has a AFL approved/appointed president who is more like a commisioner.
I'm sure John Elliot got rich from all that tax he pays

3) Promerger goons must be flushed out - if Joe goes the MFC goes straight back to the terrible desicions that got us in the mire in the first place, Stockdale couldn't run the state let alone the MFC -

4) People that are splitting into factions seem to be heading into two areas - business people and non-players (Ron Walker, Max Walker) over here with Stockdale & Co. - whilst most ex-players are backing Joe (Stynes, Flower) - & the coach, the football dept, want the pro-merger goons OUT

5) if you don't want Joe back, then you align yourself with messing up this clubs - poor off field descisions & the like

6) This has nothing to do with money, it's about whether the members control their club & obviously we don't

Hmmmm.......the issue of a president coming or going is usually pretty clear cut. It's pretty clear that Presidents that leave clubs, voluntarily or otherwise, have run their race, and that it's time for a new person to take charge. In recent years, we've had McGuire take over the Rose administration at Collingwood, Smorgan succeeding Gordon at the Bulldogs, and (sorry, I forgot his name), but the new guy at Richmond who took over from Daphne at Richmond.

But here, it's clear that Gutnick hasn't finished the job, and the new administration isn't that new with a couple of them having been involved in the merger debacle.

My pet hate of Gutnick was his habit of saying that anyone who disagreed with him was an anti-Semite, regardless of the merits of the opposing argument. However, after reading (with plenty of grains of salt), the Herald-Sun, I'm starting to wonder if the Melbourne Football Club really does fit in with the Establishment stereotypes that the rest of us delight in taking the p*ss out of and that his faith really did prevent him from being fully embraced by the club. Usually high profile fans keep a neutral line on football club politics, but to read quotes by John Rothfield, Nicky Buckley, Greg Healy, and Steve Moneghetti universally say that Gutnick should cut his ties.....I wonder who has been in their ears.

Without a doubt, Gutnick did the best he could for Melbourne Football Club. If any other president had put their own money into a football club and then see them finish top 4 in 3 seasons with 1 Grand Final appearance, well, there is no way that the board of Directors would ever try to remove him. By the same token, Gutnick has said plenty of things in the media that other Presidents may have been more circumspect about (for instance, the David Schwarz racism comments, threatening legal action if the AFL fined him). However, he is a strong personality, but I get the feeling that if there was more trust between him and the board, then there would have been more communication and he could have consulted them before making his announcements. I get the feeling that the anti-Gutnick people prodded and provoked him in the knowledge that he would lash out in the media and cause his own downfall.

Gutnick added a legacy of professionalism to the Melbourne Football Club. Note how much effort was taken to recruit Neale Daniher as coach and how he notified the AFL of the salary cap breaches. But in his heart and soul, he really wasn't a football person. By the same token, the current directors are Melbourne Football Club people, but the MFC is not a consuming passion for them....it's just another winter diversion. In the end, I think Melbourne will be worse off if Gutnick does cut his ties with the club.

well when i first heard the news last night my intitial reaction was "im gonna vote to get joseph back" , but after watching the footy show and hearing what Gabrielle Szondy and Bev O Connor had to say, as well as some inside information, i have a feeling i am going switch sides. my reasoning is this. Jospeh wants to do things his way, he wants a board that will drop to their knees for him and do everything he says. the current board does not want to do that. and that is fair enough. we have to remember this, when jo first came to the club in 1996 he came from dealing wiht commodities, such as gold, oil etc. he had never run a football club, and he wasnt even a member of the mfc. going from an outsider to president in a matter of days is just wrong. he had no prior knowledge of what our club was like, and so he says he wants a club for the members run by the members. but this doesnt work with Jospeh's regime of doing business.

As it stands now, Gabrielle and Beverley both have intimate knowledge of the club, being long time supporters, as well as a strong sense of how things should be done. Joesph's biggest mistake was trying to have it all his own way. i think they will be great for the club and with the board as it stands right now i think it would be good. How can Joseph challenge people who have been involved with club or a lot longer than he has, and expect to get it his way. (ie ex board members who r past players, and other directors who have been involved with the club at that kind of level longer than he has)

I know he gave the club nearly $3million and people r going to say thats all we wanted him for, but the truth is this. YOU CAN NOT RUN A FOOTBALL CLUB LIKE A MINING COMPANY COS IT JUST WONT WORK! and that is what he is trying to do. With his other companies he has a finger in every pie, but he cant have that at the footy club cos its unacceptable. if he doesnt get re-elected then it wont be as if the club returns to the states of pre 1996, cos that wont happen, we r now financially stable enough to cope without him. look i appreciate what he has done for our club, but he has run his race, and i think it is time for him to go. he cant have it his way foreva. and for him to back down like that cos he lost a court case is just sad, he fought a lost battle yesterday in the courts, and he is fighting a bigger loosing battle at the moment (the last bit doesnt make sense i know)

i for one am voting NO in the upcoming election.

the two on the footy show were embarressing! talk about a white wash...total crap and propaganda!

talk about back stabbers

joe did nothing but good for melb and this is how they treat him!

heres hoping that melb members show some heart and think long and hard how joe put his money where his mouth is..unlike idiots like stockdale and johnston who are just fat cat pisspots...

joe has added a professionalism to melb and the results are already on the board.

my bet is IF joe goes theyll crumble to bits ..and then they can only blame themselves!

support joe..he deserves better than the media crap he is getting lately..

the little fat jewish man with the big wallet has won a lot of respect from many of us

good luck to him!

Do you honestly believe what Bev and Zombie said on TV is true.
It was only 24 hrs. before the 4 other Directors were with Joe....yes what happened youmay well ask???

These 2 are muppets for Guest and Co.!!! and more importantly the AFL. Can't you see thru them!!! I can.
Go to Demonology where thank god, the supporters on there have more knowledge of what has happened behind the scenes. Supporters like you we do not need.
Girls find out more about what is happening at your club.

The truth will come out very very soon.
Stick with Joe, for heavens sake.

What did Patrick Smith say about Melbourne supporters....FICKLE!! AND I AGREE WITH HIM.

Joe's only been in office a short time and his job is not yet done.
AND DON'T YOU THINK THAT THIS NEXT BOARD WILL TAKE US TO ANOTHER MERGER.....BELIEVE ME, THEY WILL.
and by then it will be TOO LATE.
Think about it girls.

i haven't posted for a while and thats coz i am not really up to it at the moment but i feel like i have to respond to this thread.
if you don't already know i think Joe is great and i think that what he has achieved is second to non and it would make me sick to see him go.
its ok for him to give money and save our club but its not alright for him to want to run the board in a way where people are not backstabbing him!
alot of you don't actually know what is happening behind closed doors and while i dont know much either i do know a few things from talking to Joe....
1) the board members (which half of them are MCC members by the way) have been making it virtually impossible for joe to run the club
2) there are a few board members who have been tipping off the press
3) that Hoe O'conner (spelling??) and that loser Szondy are not saints.... i am a good judge of character and i can see right through them. Szondy didnt even want to be the president, they just gave him the job coz no one else wanted to take it.... so as it stands our board is a bunch of MCC stuckups and a few other idiots who dont give a toss about us the members and to top it all off our president doesn't even want to be our president.... now tell me that isnt a joke!

i do however think that those bunch of morons should stay there till the end of the year and than let the members decide and lets hope the members have some decency left in them and that they will choose Joe who is the right man for the job.... and one more thing it is so obvious that the players, coaching staff and administors are all in favour of Joe so if you don't vote Joe coz you want him at least vote Joe for the sake of the players and all of them who can't have a say.

GO DEES! :)

From what us outsiders can gather, the players, coaching staff, and administration have kept a neutral stance on this.....what evidence do you have that all these people are supportive of Joe?

u hit the nail right on the head their shinners. they have to do 2 things.

1. remain neutral to the argument, and 2 stay out of the bickering altogether because then things willreally fall apart if the football department get involved.

1. I have never read on this MB that you were a male.
2. The fact that you seem so close to DeesGirl 9, I presumed you were female.
3. Its obvious you don't like me because I had the audacity to criticize MCC members who don't buy football memberships.
4. Its also obvious to me that for some reason you don't like Joe.
5. You don't seem to want to accept that there are rumblings behind the scenes..and its all Joes fault...it takes 2 to tango, doesn't it??
6. I don't want to keep bickering with you, because quite frankly I have had enough of it...I just wish you could see what is REALLY HAPPENING AT THAT FOOTBALL CLUB A ND bother finding out the real truth.

Dees01
Me showing great loyalty, why don't you ask yourself that question? Who voted for the merger?
I will say once again, if Guest and Co. get up on that same ticket, I will not buy a membership ever again..and I bet I won;t be the only one.
For years I have never missed buying a membership...my feelings are so strong on this issue...those particular board members did not want a MFC they wanted the Melbourne Hawks...they had the chance to back down...did not... they show no respect.
I don't want to put my money into a club that wants to merge in the future....I don't want them to represent that club

Dees Rule,
Thank God for you.....and for backing me up....the truth is slowly starting to emerge about our ?Board....its still being denied on the press now, but most can see past the lies.

I only hope that Joe can get up, because if he doesn't the club is going to be in real trouble.!!

the guy that is in charge of the supporters group in adelaide is in contact with the club all the time and i was talking to him on sunday and there r a lot of things that we as supporters are not getting told, which is SO UNFAIR!!!!!! and from this i still dont have a definate picture in my mind about what is going on, but what i do know is this, i am not officially making my mind up about the issue until we as MEMBERS (the people who r voting need to have all the facts otherwise it could go terribly wrong) r told the whole story. we have a right to know EXACTLY what joseph and his posse r trying to do, and until then i am not speaking anymore about this issue. and i am not going to let people know which way i end up voting cos i dont think it is fair. We also need to know what Gabe and co r planning to do. we r being left out in the cold on this and it aint fair. :(

Me close to Dee girl 9. You have to be joking. We have had more disagreements than a married couple!
3. Its obvious you don't like me because I had the audacity to criticize MCC members who don't buy football memberships.
That's fine to criticise MCC Members but remember I pay nearly $350 a year and then we are all expected to afford to buy more for a membership.
4. Its also obvious to me that for some reason you don't like Joe.
I don't like the disruption he is causing during the season.
5. You don't seem to want to accept that there are rumblings behind the scenes..and its all Joes fault...it takes 2 to tango, doesn't it??
Yes but I understand it to be Joe does not get his way so he casues disruption.

Yes it is not healthy for fellow supporters to fight like this.

What is wrong with that. I thought it was in the best interests of the club at the time. Better than to have no Melbourne at all.

I do crow a bit don't I? ;)

I feel REAL PASSIONATE on this topic because I know what's happening behind the scenes and just how a lot of the present board members have continually stabbed Joe in the back from day 1.

Even today my stance on this matter was proved when evidence was produced that one/plus board members hired a private detective to dig out dirt on Joe...and guess what nothing was found. How low can these guys go. ??
f you knew what I knew your hair would curl!!!

what exactly do u know??? because if it is what i know then maybe...........

at the moment i am working in close association with one of the people that Joe wants on his ticket, and i will tell u this, he isnt getting it all his own way right know, and he isnt happy.
