NSW squad for the upcoming Pura Cup match

NSW squad Steve Waugh (capt), Greg Mail, Phil Jaques, Michael Bevan, Michael Clarke, Dominic Thornely, Mark Waugh, Brad Haddin (wk), Matthew Nicholson, Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Adrian Tucker, Glenn McGrath

Is this the same Adrian Tucker from over a decade ago or a bugger up by cricinfo.

I was wondering about that myself.

Adrian Tucker's last first-class match was January 1994.

That would be a ten year absense, which must be close to a record, at least in Sheffield Shield.

It's strange that they wouldn't be persisting with Liam Zammit.

Yep, same guy there was an article about his impeding recall in the Herald. Here's some links:

o my god he got picked!!!! :)

this guy plays first grade at my club and has done so for about 15 years (this has been his first season back cause he went overseas).

He's been a big part of the reason we are coming third.

really really nice guy and extremely talented cricketer.

absolutely rapped for him :D

saw an article during the week saying he could get a call up but didn't think it would happen.

he bowls a pretty flat style with a high arm action but bowls the odd loopy ball. reasonable turner with a wrong'un that can barely be picked by any batsmen in sydney. take out Warney and he's just as talented as any leg spinner to enter the FC scene in Australia over the past 10-15 years but i don't think he ever took he's cricket at state level all that seriously which was why he ended up with a fairly modest record....

very Kumble like in his style...

Thanks for the links grimlock.

Tucker is believed to have made history without bowling a ball, since his first-class career interval of 10 years and 52 days is thought to be a record in the 111 years of the Sheffield Shield and Pura Cup. Suspected as much.

Tucker moved to Hong Kong for two years earlier this decade, returning to find a grade berth this season with Eastern Suburbs, taking 26 wickets from 15 games at an average of 21.96 Less than 2 wickets a game... not exactly impressive on the face of it.

He was touted to be the next big thing (before Shane Warne), probably because they were the only two leggies in the country!

Probably most famous for getting belted for 30 runs in one over by Tom Moody 1990/91ish. He must be getting on a bit now...

Possibly just as interesting as Lazarus the Leggie's comeback, is who the two will be who are left out?

Tucker's the only spinner in the squad, probably one of the quicks to be left out - Stuart Clark?

6 batsmen, plus Thornely and Haddin. One has to go... on form probably Mark Waugh, but I suspect Thornely might be the unlucky one.

Another Tucker article by Marshallsea today.

Contrary to what's said in the article though, the 10 year gap is not a record.

One counter-example is Dennis Lillie. Yes, that's right, well known Queensland leg-spinner Dennis Lillie (note the spelling).

Came back after some 15 seasons!

Thornely is the obvious one to go unless Bevan or Clarke wants a rest. Unlikely Clarke would rest - he wants to prove his test credentials to the selectors - but Bevan may still have some niggles.

Of the bowlers, I'd say Stuart Clark is the obvious one to miss. It'll be interesting to see how McGrath goes.

Good to see NSW blooding the youngsters.

Queensland had a legspinner named Dennis Lillie (no I'm not joking) who played in 1965-66 and wasn't selected again until the 1980-81 season. That's 15 years.

It looks like it's a NSW record at least.
