View Full Version : Time is ripe for sheedy

I heard Tim Watson on SEN this morning say that he feels Kevin Sheedy has always had the inclination to one day coach the tigers. I feel the timing this year is ripe for him to cross over. Frawley and sheedy out of contract; tigers in constant turmoil, 24 years with the one employer is a long time.

My bet is a sheedy/tiger bond in 2005.

Looks like Timmy is doing the right thing by his former boss, keep pumpin his tyres, make sure Sheeds gets his contract renewed at the highest possible price.

I have more respect for those that believe in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter bunny than I do for people who believe that Sheedy will coach Richmond.

Sheedy won't come, he will stay at Essendon. He won't work with Miller anyway.
Sheedy is getting old and therefore has a limited timespan left in the game. I would be happy to see him in a mentoring role only.

Let's stop all this crap and get behind the people we have now. If things don't work out make changes at the end of the season.

Well you're wrong. Sheedy thinks he is bigger than the game. He could retire tomorrow, and he will always be considered as one of the great coaches in the game. So money aside, and he has enough of that, there's not much of a challenge for him to stay at Windy Hill.

The only challenge left to him is to do what no-one else has been able to do for 24 years, bring a flag to Tigerland.

The one thing that has stopped Sheedy coming over in the past is not money, its our administration. The bombers have the best administration in the AFL, and Sheedy thinks ours has always been a joke. He knows he cant deliver a flag without support from the right administration, and with the kind of CEOs we've had running the place in the past, and the kind of board that TJ refers to as leaking things over lunch.

We're a much more professional set-up these days. And Miller helps a lot in that area. Sheedy knows he needs a guy like Miller around the place to get a flag, so for those out there who think they cant work together, the opposite is true. They'd rather be on the same side.

The only thing that worries me about Sheedy is whether he'll be like Allan Jeans. A great coach at Hawthorn, but his year with us is another one on a long list to be forgotten. But I'm betting he'll take the jump.

Mate iw ould be dreaming if that happened aye. Not only would he give us a winnable game plan but he would maybe give other guys careers a second chance and also he is pretty good at scouting young talent so all in all he could turn richmond around

Weaver is right on this one - Sheedy will be at Essendon in 2005, after he's manipulated the situation to improve his pay/conditions/tenure.

We know Sheedy's done it before, but we have Miller these days, not some dud like Bradshaw. Miller can get him, if he wants him that is.

it is no secret that sheedy still loves the tigers it is actually still in his blodd shall we say but he always uses the tigers to up the ante and get him contract at essesndon.
maybe this year it will be different and l hope so, we need sheedy his toughness his football sense his marketability will be huse for the club but right now we have a b grade coachand we just have to wether the storm it will be anotehr tough year

It would be great if the Bombers could sign him up soon, get the whole issue out of the way. If only Wallace would sign a long term deal with a TV network, then the highly dodgy concept of hiring him would be gone too.

I think the messiah idea is a dangerous one for Richmond to run with at this time. Not only do they rarely work, they also allow the club to get lazy (oh, we don't have to think carefully about if we need to hire, who we hire, or where we're going, we'll just grab that messiah over there, he'll fix everything).

Forget Wallace - He says he will only coach a side capable of delivering a premiership straight away. Sheeds is a long shot and I think there is buckleys he will ever come to Richmond. Eade has question marks over his ability. Malhouse aint gonna happen. Harvey or O'Donnell for mine - with preference to the latter. - Had Premiership success at Essendon and assistant coach at Brisbane for 3 straight - pretty good credentials. Has seen first hand how Leigh Matthews turned the rabble they were in 98 around. However even though I think the year should be seen out I am getting more and more convinced that Frawley (for all his good points) will never be able to deliver what matters most - a flag.

I think Gary O'Donnell is the likely one. If Mathews does not win a premiership he might retire and O'Donnell is probably heir apparant.

If we could get him for season 2005 it would be a real coup.

The connections to Brisbane are strong. Craig Lambert is one assistant, Wayne Brittain's brother Craig is another, and Miller favourite John Blakey is the other. It is no wonder that Weller and Morrison ended up with us and Copeland was so close.

If we can't get O'Donnell don't be surprised if Gary Ayres is the hot target over the summer. Adelaide are making noises that he is good but not good enough and he has never really won them over. He might be available and Victorian bound.

If Ayres coaches Richmond then get good seats on the wing - you'll be seeing a lot of the ball there.

With our backline and centre, the ball won't get to the wing too often. Back flank and back pocket will be my go.

Wing will be an improvement, we go so wide know that we struggle to avoid kicking out on the full whenever we go forward.
