View Full Version : Who is the better bat? Murali or MacGilla?
They both cannot bat to save themselves. But who is the better bat?
Who is the better bowler: Hayden or Langer?
Who cares. :o

No offence to BNG, but he's easily the worst bowler in the Aus squad
Murali can at least hit a few 6s, Macgill is a walking wicket
Murali's test average is surprisingly higher than i thought....12ish. MacGill is 7. I guess that answers the question.
From what i've seen of Murali he is a disgraceful batsman.

At least Murali can hit the ball. Macgill can't even get that right.
I've seen a couple of entertaining innings from Murali in the series against South Africa - where he just threw the bat calypso style.

The way McGill is batting it is a travesty of justice if he bats higher than McGrath ever.

i think mcgrath gets very nervous when he goes out to bat. MacGill doesnt seem to value his wicket as much.

Yeah. McGrath would be annoyed he hasn't had the chance of batting at #10 with MacGill in the team & a chance to have 2 partnerships an innings (albeit brief).

All these years later he is still dirty on himself for getting out to Fanie DeVilliers that day at the SCG when we only needed a couple to win. He's probably dirty on himself for what happened on Sunday night as well.

MacGill did make a 40-odd in the 1998/99 Ashes... and he scored one of the fastest fifties in FC history (in terms of minutes) a couple of seasons ago! (against SA :()

Actually you'd all be surprised that McGrath actually has a pretty damn good technique for a tailender, but he's too nervous and his judgement is horrible.
He actually can play some pretty damn good shots does Pigeon, he can cover drive, he can hook, he can block, but the problem for him is to choose the right ball and play the right shot
But gee, Pigeon's 10 times better a batsman than Macgill, even my grandpa would bat better than Macgilla

Going by those poll choices, the question should be: "Who do Australian cricket fans hate more?"
Murali.
They're both scared of pace bowling but at least Murali gets into line. Murali can play spin fairly well, but Magilla just tires to slog everything these days.
Personally I rate McGrath as better than both of them because he always gets into line & he values his wicket.
I don't think I ever saw Muller bat, but he mast have been pretty useless if he's batted after McGill & Pigeon.
I reckon NSW would have had a tail that looked like this a few seasons back.
9. McGill
10. McGrath
11. Stuart
no worse than
9. Alderman
10. Reid
11. Capel
or
9. Fleming
10. Inness
11. Corbett

Hey!.......Flem could bat. Highest test score of 75 from memory.
Flem , Rieffel and warney had a bet to see who would end up with the highest test score. Looks like warney has that bet won.

Might have been harsh on Flem but try this
8. Flem
9. Williams
10. Inness
11. Corbett
Flem would be Not Out 0 batting with that lot!
Pistol was a good batsman, even at test level. Would've made a ton vs NZ one summer if Tugga hadn't declared.
Warney's gone from batting at 11 for St.Kilda early on, to being a good No.8 at test level.
at least mcgill looks like a cricketer when he goes out to bat... murali looks like an under 12 when he's @ the crease... he's pants are hiked up around his nipples, you can see all the protective equipment sticking out from under his whites... his arm guard is twice the length of his forearm...

I know time blurs the mind but in the game you speak of Mark Taylor was the captain for one, and two when the declaration came Reiffel was 28 not out! For the record Ponting was 73 (batting at 7  )

Can't remember if he just got lucky or not but Magill's test batting totals are getting worse with time.
In his first few tests he at least made a few serviceable totals:
10, 21, 23, 10, 20, 0, 43
But since then....
0, 0, 6, 0, 0, 0, 7, 17, 1, 4, 2, 19, 18*, 6, 1, 20, 1, 1, 4*, 0, 2, 0, 2, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0
His recent efforts are starting to look like binary programming.
Pretty sure Australia has gone into a Test match with the tail consisting of Alderman, Rackemann and Reid.
As BT pointed out, the WA tail of Alderman, Capes and Reid is a shocker, and when they retired a few more bunnies in Garnaut and Mulder stepped in.
SA would have had George, McIntyre and Harrity at one stage...
It shows how little he values his wicket batting at no.11 and only being not out once in 37 digs.

Think the kids batting in Primary School would be better than Macca. :D
So far on the tour we have
MacGill 0 runs off 1 ball. Dismissed once by Murali.
Murali 0 runs off 3 balls. Dismissed once by MacGill/Warne.
The battle is on.

I would like to know how many Test pairs have Murali and Macgill got? Murali got a pair in the last test, and I'm pretty sure it ain't his first
