His non-selection in the Pura Cup final probably warrants a post on it's own. A class act who has performed consistently for Victoria over the past 5 or so seasons yet gets shafted for the biggest game of his life.
We'd love him over in WA. Maybe our attack next year would be half decent with a disillusioned Matty Inness, an out-of-favour Brad Williams, a healthy Michael Clark and a quality rooke in Beau Casson. Happy days are here again.
Unlikely to happen though.

i don't understand this selection at all.
Didn't even realize till you posted this.
i know Wise has been in good form. Who's the other quickie to partner him and Harvey??
But you gotta go with your gun and Inness would probably be feeling fairly dirty. Has anyone seen any interviews with him at all??

If Williams wasnt playing internationals, and Clark was fit, we'd have a great bowling line up. All 'if's' though. Williams will continue in one dayers for Australia for another full season at least... and Im not holding out on Michael Clark ever being able to put a whole season in. His body just isnt up to it.
Looks like WA are going to continue to attempt to recruit interstate players for now though - a recent report named three, cant recall names now unfortunately.

If Inness went to WA I'd send him off with the best of wishes, His skill and hard work for the Victoria has been completely ignored because the selectors wanted to bat out a draw.
I almost hope he does go to WA, hopefully he is appreciated there
Seems an unusual decision when not so long ago a lot of people were pushing his barrow ahead of Bracken and the like for a sopt in the National side. Victoria can't whinge about lack of representation when the only bowler in the side with a realistic chance of making the Aust team isn't deemed worthy of selection in the State final. Almost hoping he has some sort of injury problem we don't know about to justify this. He must feel like crap.:(

Mick Lewis.
Expressed my feeling on the match thread. He will be disappointed, but i cannot see a guy like Mathew leaving.
Not surprised to see the vultures circling though.

Mick Lewis.
very surpsied that Lewis was picked infront of Inness.
I'd take Inness in front of any of the Vic bowlers.......probably his worst season in years (and he's still a better year than ML) and he's averaging 28  he's been unreal for your mob over the years.
don't know how long he is contracted for, but the other states (particularly WA) will be gunning hard for him I reckon.
the whole contract negotioations start pretty soon i think so they'll be hoping he blood is still boiling (which it no doubt it is now i'd think) when they come around.

Mathew has every right to be disappointed, however knowing him, he will be giving his full support to the team and not brooding whatsover.
I'd be very surprised if a man like Mathew Inness would leave Victoria, given team success is higher on his agenda than personal success.
I'm not surprised. In fact I said that Inness was no certainty to play.
There's enough logic to support the inclusion of the guys that played ahead of him:
McDonald/Harvey - gives them extra batting strength in a match where (if worse comes to worst) they may have to force a five day draw
Wise - been Victoria's best bowler this season
Lewis - luckiest of the lot, probably got picked because he's a right arm quick whilst Wise & Inness are lefties
That said, Inness is still Victoria's best bowler and at the moment their only bowling candidate for Test selection (though Wise could come into calculations down the track). I don't think having a left/right opening pace attack is enough reason to leave a guy out.

I predicted that he wouldn't play. I feel bad for him, but Lewis and Wise's form have been much better. Matty hasn't been in the best of form (he hasn't been terrible mind you) and injuries have kinda stuffed his year up a bit, so he is very unlucky.
Would be disappointed if he left, as all he'd need is another decent year next year for the Vic's and he'll be in the test side. Love the bloke, absolute gun, but I can understand why he's carrying the drinks.

Adam Griffith, Steve Magoffin from Queensland and another bloke I cant remember.
Innes would be nice though:D, as would a fit Michael Clark.

the way the final is played, where is the incentive to choose bowlers? One of these days a team hosting the final is going to select 11 batsmen.

Spot on!!! I couldn't believe it when I heard QLD won the toss and put Vic in to bat.
Perhaps our astute Qld posters can enlighten us to that one.

Well the home team has been the best performed over the regular season so I don't think its totally unfair that they could win via a draw. The away side is given an extra day to win.
Playing 11 batsmen is fraught with danger too. It's always dangerous to enter a game with a mindset to draw it. Plus a team without bowlers is obviously going to spend a long time in the field, so they'll be pretty depleted once they have to bat after that.
If you're criticising the make-up of Victoria's team, I don't think its that bad. There's five players they'll get plenty of overs out of - two specialists and three all-rounders, plus a handy sixth bowler in Moss.

I guess he had to decide between that and batting first and trying to bat for as long or as quickly as possible and trying to really drain the Victorians for when it came their turn to bat. As it is the Queenslanders are going to be very very tired when they have to bat.
