What a momentous tour. This is the first ODI, being played at National Stadium, Karachi. Inzamam-ul-Haq won the toss and chose to field first
Pakistan team: Yasir Hameed, Imran Farhat, Yousuf Youhana, *Inzamam-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Malik, +Moin Khan, Naved-ul-Hasan, Mohammad Sami, Shoaib Akhtar.
India team: SR Tendulkar, V Sehwag, HK Badani, *SC Ganguly, +R Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, M Kaif, A Nehra, M Kartik, L Balaji, Z Khan.
Not a good start for Pakistan:
First Over from Akhtar:
Y. . Y1 . N. 4 N. 1 . .
0.6 Shoaib Akhtar to Sehwag, no run, pitched up again, hit uppishly to Shoaib Malik at covers, and remarkably the catch is floored!
Looks like Pakistan will make some money from this series :)

10.5 Naved-ul-Hasan to Sehwag, no run
10.4 Naved-ul-Hasan to Sehwag, no run, short in length, tries to cut and gets beaten
10.3 Naved-ul-Hasan to Sehwag, two runs, full and on legs, whipped away to deep mid wicket
10.2 Naved-ul-Hasan to Sehwag, FOUR, fuller length, smashed away past mid off for a boundary
10.2 Naved-ul-Hasan to Sehwag, (noball) no run, bouncer and umpire called a noball
10.2 Naved-ul-Hasan to Sehwag, (noball) FOUR, OH! dear another no ball, hits it over mid off, four more!
10.1 Naved-ul-Hasan to Sehwag, no run, on the stumps, defended back
10.1 Naved-ul-Hasan to Sehwag, (noball) no run, another noball, plays and misses outside off
10.1 Naved-ul-Hasan to Sehwag, (noball) FOUR, long hop - put away in fine style, rocks back and pulls it hard - four!
10.1 Naved-ul-Hasan to Sehwag, (noball) FOUR, outside off, short width given Sehwag takes it and punches past mid off to the fence
Naved-ul-Hasan comes into the attack, replacing Shoaib Akhtar

a relatively good second over for Naved-ul-Hasan:
. . 1 6 . N. .
he now has 2-0-32-0 , and his economy rate has dropped from 24 to 16 runs per over.
so far, 25 extras in 13 overs.

this Naved-ul-Hasan is getting better. 3rd over:
6 W
and has the much improved figures of 2.2-0-38-1
score is 2/142 after 14.2 overs.
sehwag 82 (57)
tendulkar 28 (35)
ganguly 6* (9)

How much money is being bet on this game???
Last Wicket: 142/2 (14.2 ov); Partnership: 73 runs, 5.2 overs, RR: 13.69!!!
V Sehwag b Naved-ul-Hasan 82 (57b 14x4 1x6) SR: 143.86
Just heard the scores on the radion coming home from work after about 12 overs. I couldn't work out the batsmens scores they were giving. They didn't seem to add up. Surely there couldn't be 25 or so extras after 12 overs, I thought.

Naved-ul-Hasan's economy rate is still improving:
after his 1st over: 24.00
after his 2nd over: 16.00
after his 3rd over: 13.00
after his 4th over: 10.50
after his 5th over: 9.40
after his 6th over: 8.50
after his 7th over: 8.29
after his 8th over: 8.12
after his 9th over: 8.00
and he's now got sehwag and ganguly.

13 Mar 2004, 16:04
He's done it
Naved-ul-Hasan's 10-0-73-3 Economy Rate: 7.30
Each over he conceded less and less than his previous over.
After 1 legal delivery, his economy rate was 102.00 runs per over. He finishes with an economy rate of 7.30 runs per over.
India's run rate is 7.43 runs per over, more than what Naved-ul-Hasan gave up.
What a brave decision to bowl him out after his first over!

haha good on Neved-ul-Hasan... whoever who is. i've never even heard of him. Last i heard, Yuvraj just got out, which must mean Pakistan are into the middle order.

Well for all the cynicism from you guys this match is taking an intriguing route towards "Thriller" at the minute
Pakistan need 93 runs to win off 62 balls @ 9.00 RPO
Inzamam and Yousuf Youhana are at the crease, both very good batsmen in their own right, and Inzamam has just brought up his hundred. My money is still *just* with the Indians, but with the big hitting Abdul Razzaq and Moin Khan still to come (and both have done it before), who knows!

Oh and by the way, the Pakis may have a dodgy history with the bookies, but they would *never* throw a game against India. It would be like Rod Marsh and Dennis Lillee throwing a game against England.
The threat of being hunted down and strapped to the nose of the first missile fired into Delhi probably keeps them honest in that respect... Highlights of the match on Foxtel tomorrow at 5.

84 now to win off 54 balls. The match is now dead even I reckon.
Pakistan will set the record for the greatest ever successful run chase ever if they win, beating Australia's 330 against South Africa by a considerable margin, and even if they lose they're heading for the highest ever total batting 2nd, which I think is that 330 or a 331 by Sri Lanka about 7 years ago against the West Indies.

An 12 run over off Ashish Nehra gives Pakistan the edge. 72 to win off 48 balls now. Both players batting superbly. The current partnership is 109 off just 86 balls.

13 Mar 2004, 21:01
A master stroke by Ganguly. After long deliberation he brings on Kartik, who gets Inzamam caught behind first ball. 278/4 now, 72 to win off 47 balls, with Abdul Razzaq the new man in. My money's still on Pakistan, but it's very very tight.
Will be an awesome chase if they get it. Woops, Inzi just got out. Big blow for the Pakis.

Whatever happens from here, probably fair to say that the Pakistan A v India game the other day wasn't just one out of the box ;)
53 off 36 with a four to Razzy. Sniff Sniff.

43.6 Balaji to Abdul Razzaq, FOUR, Razzaq! Razzaq! what a shot! fraction
short outside the off stump, Razzaq makes room and slaps it over
the extra cover fielder, great shot!
Get ready. Here he goes again. That man Razzaq has moved along to an ominous 14 off 9 balls, and Pakistan now require 50 runs off 34 balls.
43.6 Balaji to Abdul Razzaq, FOUR, Razzaq! Razzaq! what a shot! fraction short outside the off stump, Razzaq makes room and slaps it over the extra cover fielder, great shot!
I know who he's got his money on!
:p
Thats 37 off the last 4 overs but Kartik to Younis Khan, OUT: bowled'im! Kartik strikes again! tossed up on the middle, a fulltoss, Younis Khan moves away and tries to run it down fine but makes no connection, woodwork rearranged. 5/305 needing 45 off 31.
Kartik gets another wicket. He didn't looke like he could get me out when he was here this summer!
rchowell
13 Mar 2004, 21:12
Add another one to that and he's moved to 19 off just 11 balls.
Younis Khan has departed in the meantime though, and Pakistan needs 45 off 31 balls. The big question is whether to send in Shoaib Malik or Moin Khan. I'd plump for Shoaib - both have a cool head but I don't think Pakistan need two blokes going for it at once. Not with the way Razzaq can hit it.
rchowell
13 Mar 2004, 21:13
They've gone for Moin. Hope it's not a panic decision. 43 off 28. Still favour Pakistan *just*
45 off 31. Getting closer to run a ball. Love tosee a replay of this one.
Razzy with a 6 surrounded by plenty of leg byes 34 off 24!
rchowell
13 Mar 2004, 21:16
45.5 Balaji to Abdul Razzaq, SIX, stunning shot! gets under it and lofts
it miles over the long on fence, straight into the stands, Razzaq
is the man of the hour
Very handy cricketer. 26 off 14 balls he is now. 34 off 24 now. Money now definitely with Pakistan.

Geez I think Zaheer Khan's taken the gas in this over. 2 wides leaving 28 to win off 21 now.
Indians aren't doing themselves any favours here, 3 extras in a row i think. tsk tsk:p

Haha. True. He's one bloke that the rest of the fat slob, lazy, fat ass cricketers can look up to!!:p (Such as myself)
He's great to watch when he gets going.
Khan to Abdul Razzaq, OUT: bowled'im! Zaheer strikes! slower delivery on the middle and off, Razzaq tries to run it down fine but makes no connection, off stump is clipped back!
6/322. 28 off 20. Longshot now Razzys gone!

13 Mar 2004, 21:24
The game turns again! Razzaq gone for 27 off 16 balls. He's done his job. 28 to win off 20 balls. Still sticking with the Pakis. The luxury of having Shoaib Malik coming in at number 8 :)

13 Mar 2004, 21:28
Reckon Moin's struggling a bit here. 6 off 9 balls so far isn't exactly helpful. At the very least he's taking a bit of time getting his eye in. Reckon this game has a few more legs in it yet! 23 to win off 16
17 off 12. Very gettable.

13 Mar 2004, 21:32
17 to win off 12. Moin is on strike for the start of the 49th. He's 9 off 11, and Shoaib is 6 off 3. Neither player has found the fence as yet.
rchowell
13 Mar 2004, 21:33
Zaheer just fluffed a run out and they got back for 3. 14 off 11 now.
48.1 Khan to Moin Khan, three runs, good length delivery on the middle and off, Moin comes down the track and plays it down to the long off region, Zaheer is not able to catch the throw and an extra run is given away! pressure! pressure!
Not like the Indians to crumble in the field
;) :D

7/340 caught by Kaif 10 off 7.

Shoaib gone - think I'm almost gone too WHAT A GAME!!!
341/7 with an over to go. 9 runs to win, 6 balls to go, 3 wickets standing. New man Naved-ul-Hasan (the first of the all out bowlers I presume) has the strike. He is 1 off 1, Moin is 15 off 14.
Still on the Pakis to get up!
Who's the lucky Indian then to bowl the last over:D :D
rchowell
13 Mar 2004, 21:42
Nehra, Pedro. Probably the most capable of producing the yorker on a consistent basis. Wouldn't put the house on him though!
rchowell
13 Mar 2004, 21:42
I think they've choked! 8 to win off 3! I can't pick a winner from here! Not while Moin is still on strike!
Not going on his form here, although he is the one who could do it I suppose. Hope there's no riots if the Pakis fall 1 or 2 short!
rchowell
13 Mar 2004, 21:44
Moin could only manage a single. Credit to Nehra - bowling superbly through the first 4 balls of the last. Just 2 runs conceded. 7 to win off 2, ul-Hasan on strike
Need a miracle now. 6 off 1.

13 Mar 2004, 21:45
6 to win off the last ball. I'm on the Indians now :( But Moin will have the strike. Will have to be the perfect yorker.
rchowell
13 Mar 2004, 21:47
Argh what a prick! @#$%^&* :p
Well, there you go. Great last over by Nehra, three singles, two dots and a wicket off the last ball. Hard to say when youre chasing 350, but it seems the Pakis threw it away in the end. Should have won.
rchowell
13 Mar 2004, 21:50
Pakistan require another 9 runs with 3 wickets and 6 balls
remaining
so it comes down to the last over
Nehra to bowl
49.1 Nehra to Naved-ul-Hasan, no run, dot ball! short delivery on the
middle, Hasan swings hard but makes no contact
49.2 Nehra to Naved-ul-Hasan, one run, pitched up on the middle and leg,
driven down to the long off region, just the one run, tension
mounts!
Pakistan require another 8 runs with 3 wickets and 4 balls
remaining
Moin Kahn is the perfect man for thse situations, can he take
Pakistan to victory here?!
49.3 Nehra to Moin Khan, no run, another dot ball! yorker lenght
delivery on the pads, Khan misses out and the ball hits the pad
and falls dead on the track
Ganguly comes forward and has a word with his bowler
49.4 Nehra to Moin Khan, one run, played away to the square leg region,
the fielder moves in quickly and keeps it down to one run,
Tendulkar was the fielder there, well done
49.5 Nehra to Naved-ul-Hasan, one run, another single! terrific over so
far! on the middle and off stump line, only manages to play it
straight to the cover fielder, single is taken and Moin is back on
strike
six to win just the one ball left, one name that comes to my mind
is Maindad!
49.6 Nehra to Moin Khan, OUT: got'im! fulltoss on the middle and off,
Moin swings hard and ends up hitting it to Zaheer Khan at extra
cover, Nehra does his job! Indian win by 5 runs !!
Pakistan 344/8, Partnership of 4
Moin Khan c Khan b Nehra 16 (17b 0x4 0x6)
End of over 50 (3 runs) Pakistan 344/8 (RR: 6.88 RRR: 6/0 = 0.00)
A Nehra 10-0-58-1 (1w) - University End
Naved-ul-Hasan 3* (4b)
Pakistan should have won, but full credit to Nehra. 3 runs off the final over is a super effort under the circumstances. Hell it's a super effort under any circumstances! So I spose you would have to say that the Indians held their nerve!

For the record, Pakistan's score smashed the previous best 2nd innings score (which was that 330 by Australia), and also the aggregate of 693 is a new record as well, by quite a margin.

Wonder where people will rank this game on the list of ODI's in the future. It was probably another 2 or 3 runs off being the greatest one dayer ever. As it is it's probably just behind the Australia v South Africa tie in the 1999 World Cup Semi Final. Or am I overrating things?

And what a great match it was... unbelievable hitting by both teams and the atmosphere would have been amazing.
Seems like the other games are only going to be shown as highlights, not live, probably because they clash with the Aus SL test.
Interesting that so many Aussies are commentating... Chapelli, Healy, Jones, maybe others.
