The price of DVD players may be on the way down, but it's pretty clear they get us on the price of DVD's. I haven't bought a movie on DVD for about 6 months and this is because the average RRP of a new movie DVD is $39.95 and it's rare to get a new release these days for under $35.
It's just stupid.
First of all, don't shop at Sanity, movie rental places and ANY of the music stores. Shop for DVDs at places like Kmart, Big W, and Target, that is where they are cheapest.
Second of all, there is another option, but it is illegal, buy a DVD Burner. :D
Sanity has a 2 for $40 sale at the moment, don't they, 2 for $50 possibly, I can't remember. That's a lot better than $30-$40 each.
No, I don't work at Sanity.

K Mart can be a mixed bag. Doctor Who DVDs there cost $43, whereas at the ABC shop they are around $36.
On the other hand Red Dwarf DVDs at K Mart cost $40 and at the ABC shop & other places they are $51.

Just be vigilant. Distributor specials happen all the time. 15% off sales at the major retailers are good, and I always scan the dvds I want. The big stores regularly have screwups with their scanning system, and I'm happy to pick something up at a bargain. May seem silly, but the major stores price match, so take advantage of it
Buying from Sanity is simply insane ;)

Kmart price matches, then takes off 10% of the difference between what Kmart's old price was, and the price being matched. ie. If Kmart's first price was $35, and the price being matched is $25, Kmart will match it down to $25, then take off 10% of $10 (35-25). Not much, but it ends up being cheaper.
JB Hifi always seem to have the cheapest DVD's I want. I also order a few from amazon and even after postage, they're still pretty cheap.

Who are 'they'? You get yourself by being a mindless sheeop consumer, don't jump on the treadmill and you wont have to run.
It's just stupid.
You spend money, 'they' make money. Who is stupid? Quite clearly it is you.

'They' are the distributors. Lower prices for DVD players mean more people with DVD players. They will need DVD's right? So the price of those goes up.
I also mentioned in the thread that I haven't bought a movie on DVD for over 6 months. So I haven't 'jumped on the treadmill' as you put it. I was merely making a comment on what I have observed.

Once the prices reached a point that was more than I was willing to pay then I stopped paying. Hardly makes me stupid I figure.

How long does it take to ship from amazon (did you order from UK or USA)?
www.dvdplaza.com.au
a dvd search engine that searches about 10 of australia's online dvd sellers... u can easily source the cheapest option there...
i've bought a few online from these sellers.. please check this site first before you buy anything...
but the majority of my dvd's are purchased through ebay... for the best bargains..
