my reply in paddles was a bit garbled this is what i mean.
I was thinking that if our players are amateurs then how long do they stay?
Say we won the flag this year do we move up to, what, 4 th grade? then the climb through that division etc etc. to get to 'A ' grade. The current team is doing very well but if we move up does it then become more time consuming with more serious training etc which might preclude some players from playing. How many more divisions are there to say the VFL. and is that our goal or just to sponsor the Reds and stay in 5th grade?

Both Grand Finalists go up.

The divisions are, umm, I think :

Reds currently in D3
2002 Reds in D2
2003 Reds in D1
2004 Reds in C
2005 Reds in B
2006 Reds in A

... something like that.

Once you're in division A, that's as high as you can go. The only way you could enter another league, is to transfer entirely from the VAFA.

I guess as you move up the divisions, the competition you face, may change (ie: faster, bigger, more skilled etc.), or become more difficult. But I guess that's why it's only the top 2 who go up, and you can only go up one division at a time.

Hopefully the Reds can move up the division gradually. Perhaps making A or B grade by 2010 is a realistic goal.

There is certainly nothing wrong in being in division B. If you look in the paper, it's both division A and B which get the full stats run-down.

With that said, there's nothing wrong with being in the D divisions either. It's all about how much fun you have . . .

Reds are currently looking good enough to be premiers in D2, not to mention D3. No-one in D3 comes close. Bentleigh only lost by 20 points to the Reds, but Fitzroy rested on their laurels all last quarter, and allowd a far larger margin be eroded, until they got close, and then finished them off with a quick wrench of the neck.
