Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere today, but i thought it might hold some interest for some of you.
"I have it on good authority that against Brisbane at the weekend, Street had only one uncontested mark and that the hierarchy at Bulldog land have grave concerns about his future and worth for the team."
It's Crackers Keenan, so you've got to take it with a grain of salt, but he does know Street pretty well.

Street has played OK in all games except last week. I would say Crackers is trying to justify why the Cats could not make a better ruck out of him

His comments are not worth a cracker.

Perhaps, although given Mr. Keenan hasn't worked for Geelong for over 3 years, i don't really see a need for him to justify or speak for us.
He was probably pandering to his readership, however in the past he has been a big rap for Street.

i thought Street played well against the Lions giving the team a real liftin the 2nd quarter with his centre bounce work enabling us to drive the ball forward.
Street will surprise a lot of people this season, not only is he huge, with big hair to boot he looks to have a good leap.

i don't know why people have been so critical of street.
I thought he was ok against brisbane, wasn't his best, but he wasn't to blame entirely.
At the center bounces he won nearly every tap, our rovers were terrible imho. They seemed to rove to the opposition ruck excpecting street to loose the contest evertime. Now where the miscommunication is i don't know, but I think they are used to darcy not winning the taps so much and aren't quite working right with a different type of ruckman.
besides, he's still been better than bandy.

Probably something to do with Bandy being injured perhaps?
The club is not impressed with this article!
The Geelong Advertiser crucified Peter Street last year and I "have that on good authority".

Said it before, and I ll say it again - if he gets a hand to the ball at clearances, then he is already paying his way as far as Im concerned, because thats a vast improvement on what darce was able to achieve against the giant rucks of the competition last year.
If he also learns to make himself useful around the ground over the coming year or two than thats a fantastic bonus.

i agree stefoid.
and to the other post, i was referring to bandy's performances in general, not this year.
don't get me wrong i think bandy has a place, just that now he has competition. and he's not going to get into the side just because he's the only tall we've got, he's gonna have to be inform. He looks like he's bulked up a lot though and might have a good year.

A justified crucifixion if there ever was one.
He was deplorable for Geelong, and admitted as much at our B&F.
I know most Doggies fans don't expect a great deal from him (ie. merely some good tap ruck work), however given what you gave up for him, the pressure will be on from game one.
Glad that Rohde is going to give him an opportunity, because one of Peter's major issues has been a lack of self-confidence. He plays much better when he knows that he has the faith of the coach, something he will no doubt have, at least to start with.

It should be a good fit for both the player and team.
We know Darcy is a very good ruckman however, because he is a more athletic type than a traditionally tall ruck he does struggle against some teams. Street should be a more than decent foil for him. I know most are expecting a lot more from him but 2 solid quarters here and there and the occasional full game when the match ups suit should be more than sufficient for us.
I hope that the player does appreciate the support that the coach has given him so far but the real test might be to see how he responds if/when he is sent back to the Bees.

The thing is, last year we had no one to support Darcy. No one.
Now we have someone and that will make a difference.
Give him a couple of seasons and to make his mark on the game and the support of fellow players and coaches and I'm sure we will see a different player.

it was a fairly high draft given for street,
i was surprised at that as well.

It was but that draft pick in addition to picking up Street also helped us retain Darcy.
Getting a back up ruckman to help him out was an important part of Darces' commitment to three more years at Whitten Oval and Street was always going to be the most likely to come across to us.

Sure, we paid too much for Street, but hopefully (I'm in hope, he hasnt convinced me yet) he'll provide valueable ruck support for Darce. thats why he was recruited

Well if we hadn't picked up Street who would have been Darcy's backup ruckman this year?. And if Darcy got a big injury (Touch Wood) who would have been number #1 ruckman & backup ruckman?
Dooley? Bandy? Wiggins?
Street was a necessary pickup & I think will be a very good pickup. I think he'll be as handy to us as Spider Burton has been to North.
Cheers!!
