View Full Version : Squad v the Dogs
Just in case anyone hasn't seen it yet...
WEST COAST
B: Wirrpunda, Lynch, Carroll
HB: Sampi, Jakovich, Banfield
C: Morrison, Cousins, Embley
HF: Chick, Staker, Jones
F: Matera, McDougall, Adkins
Foll: Cox, Judd, Fletcher
Inter (from): Gardiner, Humm, Braun, Seaby, Nicoski, Green, Johnson
Some things we expected, some surprises.
Very surprised to see Adkins, Staker and Banfield named as certainties already, on the interchange, Nicoski and Seabs are in with a (small) chance of playing their first game.
Assuming Gardie and Johnson are both fighting fit, I'm tipping those two plus Humm and Braun to round out the squad- Braun is necessary to pick up the midfield slack with Kerr out, and Humm has been in irreproachable form throughout the preseason and would be seriously screwed over if he missed- I can only see Seaby playing if one of Gardiner or Johnson can't make it through injury.
For my mind, we'll probably start the game like
FB: Wirrpunda Carroll Jakovich
HB: Morrison Lynch Banfield
C: Embley Cousins Fletcher
HF: Jones Gardiner Sampi
FF: Matera McDougall Chick
R:Cox Braun Judd
Int: Johnson, Humm, Adkins, Staker
- with the option of us going taller in the forward line with Johnson freeing up Chick to go into the midfield or backline depending on who looks dangerous. With Bandy out, Lynch should take Rawlings wherever he goes, and I'm back Jakovich to do the job on Darcy.
Nothing earth shattering. Im expecting Seaby and Nicoski not to make the final squad. Wont see Jako at CHB though, Carroll will go there with Jako either on the bench or used as a third tall either forward or back.
Pretty good side though and Im confident we can do the job.

the team u posted looks much better than the team posted by the club. and i hope that is the way they go.
when i first saw the team i thought it looked odd, and then realised it almost certainly wouldn't actually line up like that ( phewwwwww )
well im feeling confident but not too confident, dogs are upredictable, and so r we. but im confident our midfield will run all over theirs, and our talls will at least match theres and hopefully beat them.
ps. unfortunatly i wont find out the result of the game until possibly a week after its happened since i will be holidaying in Italy, ill try and find an internet cafe though.
Also i will be living in england for the next 6 months so i wont be able to go to any matches this year   :(

Buffy injured his knee (again!) at training on wednesday, must be ok if he's named.
The squad selections are pretty predictable, I guessed who would be named the other day when big footy was down and got them all right! Pretty proud of myself!:D
Pity Nico (or Seabs) probably won't get the chance to make their debut in rd 1 but good to see Gardy on the bench, plus Woosh hinting at him playing in the ruck... I'd think Cox would still be the main focus in the ruck.Incidentally I caught Coxy at Karrinyup buying sushi! I always seem to catch them in the most random moments!

This is how I think we will line up
WEST COAST
B: Wirrpunda, Lynch, Carroll
HB: Sampi, Staker, Nicoski
C: Morrison, Cousins, Embley
HF: Chick, Johnson, Jones
F: Matera, McDougall, Adkins
Foll: Cox, Judd, Fletcher
Inter : Jakovich, Green, Braun, Seaby
I don't think Carroll has the speed or the physical presence to be able to play on Rawlings. After looking at the practice matches I believe that Lynch would be our best option with Carroll as our third tall in defense. I still wouldn't risk Gardiner this week and expect Seaby to make his debut along with Nicoski who has been in great form during the pre-season and deserves a first up game. I don't recall how Banners went in the practice games and would leave him out to focus on having the ball rebound out of the defensive 50 using running players. I was glad to see Sampi named in the back line and think that he, along with Wirrpunda and Nicoski will add a new dimension across the back half. As Sampi is earmarked for some time in the centre this is the best option with Braun or Green dropping into the back line when he is moved into the centre. Jakovich would be used as a run with player on Darcy if he is pushed forward.
Well thats my version of events.

I'm a little surprised at the selection of Staker after his ordinary pre-season and a few injury worries. Maybe Woosha sees him as a backup defender if Rawlings starts to go to town.

wirra carrol green
banners lynch nikoski
embley cousins fletch
chick johnson jones
phil doogs samps
cox kerr judd
Why would samps be in the back line? I don't think jacko will start although may play a loose man in defence or up forward. Not too sure on banners, is he fit? I hope lynch plays at chb, i hope we can contain there talls, im very excited whilst nervous at the same time!

no real big suprises in that squad, except that Adkins has been named as a certain starter i guess.
I'm a big fan and reckons he's gonna be a good player, but i didn't think he'd get the call up for round one.
what guys are not there that we may have expected though?? Kerr is suspended.......
