hard to go past the karate kid...in response to his girlfriend's surprise that he let her drive his car: "hey, it's the 80's!"

Better Off Dead with John Cusack also comes to mind as a decent 80's film.

Conan The Barbarian has stood the test of time. It is as cheesy now as it was back then and I still love it.

I agree with Becky B though... for a film that screams 1980s, you can't really go past "Breakfast Club".

Ferris Bueller's Day Off rates higher IMO....

One Crazy Summer deserves a mention as it stars Demi Moore
and a bunch of Hollywood misfits **them Flanders type nerds**
but you can't help but like 'em. esp. Bob Goldwaithe ...even Mark Metcalf (Twisted Sister fame and the Maestro from Seinfeld)
Goofy movie

Yay! (sorry some decorum please) :D Love the Breakfast Club fans.

It's the only movie really that has stuck in my head. Like the theme song too, some funky number... anyone know what it was called?

The Indiana Jones movies were also good. "Oh Harrison Ford you're my hero!!" :D

Have you got the half hour vid "Come Out And Play" featuring both Bob Goldthwaite and Mark Metcalf? Fantastic video!

" WHOOOOOOO AAAAAAAAAAAARE YOU! WHERE DO YOU COME FROM? WHAT DO YOU WANNA DOOOOOOOOO WITH YOUR LIFE?!"

"Animals are our friends but they won't drive you to the airport"

"There's a lot of meat on a squirrel"

I agree to an extent on the Ferris Bueller film. One of my all time faves, a vastly better film than Breakfast Club, but I don't think it quite typifies 80s like Brekky Club does... the first thing most people think of when they think of Brekky Club is Molly Ringwald, and clothes & hair that scream "1985".

When was 'Elecrtric Dreams' relesased? That was a quintassential '80s film, how sad was it when the computer falls in love with her as well?

Sorry people I stopped at 1984, due to being tired, and Breakfast Club was released in 85. That and St Elmo's Fire (also 85) for "that" type of film really stand out in my mind.

Better Off Dead (85) & Hot Pursuit (87), both with Cusack, are two that I love. One of my favourite quotes when people ask for a gold coin donation (and they never understand me!) is:
"I want my two dollars..." :D

Another 87 movie I enjoyed was Can't Buy Me Love with Patrick Dempsey. A typical 80's film of nerdy boy likes prom girl which ends with prom girl falls in love with nerdy boy.

How did I miss Batchelor Party in 84? Another 84 film I forgot was an all time classic: Revenge Of The Nerds!!

Both brilliant - but as a total Cusackian, his 2 best films of the 80s were Say Anything (because I'm a girl and it's beautiful) and the Sure Thing - an absolute classic road trip flick.

A few ommissions that quite frankly amaze me

1984 - Once Upon a Time in America (Sergio Leone at his intricate best)

1983 - The Right Stuff (movie making at its finicky best)

1981 - Das Boot (if you think being at war is all wine & roses, watch this for some very rude awakening)

1985 - Ran (Kurosawa entertains on a big scale, as usual)

Yes, an absolute masterpiece. One of my favourite movies. For those that haven't seen it, get hold of the Director's Cut on DVD. A riveting film (a lot of the "ideas" in U-571 were stolen from this movie, IMO).

I'd also like to add: Repo Man (1984). I think it was Emilio Estevez's first movie. Enjoyable in an off-beat kind of way.
