As a Carlton supporter, just wondering whether you guys can come up with a way of stopping the rampant blues. We'll have Fevola and Whitnall firing up forward, with attention still needed on Kenna and Morell. Hw many key backman do you have if we put big DeLuca up there as well. Our midfields in good form with Campo and Scotland firing recently. Add Stevens who should be more settled thos week, and johnson whos impoving as each week goes by and you have serious cause for concern. Our Backline is overly strong in the Key Position area, however Thornton has done well enough on Lloyd in the past to suggest he'll hold him to no more than 4 goals. Houlihan and Lappin are two of the best back flankers going around at the moment, providing much needed run out of the backline and averiging about 25 poss a game so far. IMO our only cweakness is our ruck where the comb of Allan/Hille should be too stong for French/DeLuca. Would love some possible match ups.

Thoughts?

scroll down after clicking this link and you'll find the Don's killer team for this week. A team with a lot of very familiar faces.

i think it is going to be hard tomorrow night, against one of the competitions' true powerhouses, and genuine premiership threats. hopefully we can be within 5 goals at the final siren.

Brilliant.

That said, if Carlton beat us, it'll be because their midfield fired big, rather than the forwards.

Don't go giving me any credit, someone else posted it on bomberblitz.

I believe that the preview page just defaults to that before the team is named.

I'd like to think our boys can "match it" with the powerhouse Carlton who have an incredible 3 wins from the last 19 games ...

I mean you looked so intimidating against the Geelong Under 19s, it's going to be tough for our boys.

If we lose this, it will due to complacency, which it was in the corresponding game last year - not because your a better team than us. Sounds arrogant of me, but most Carlton supporters would agree.

IN: Sean Wellman, Mark Alvey
OUT: Ted Richards (omitted), Nathan Lovett-Murray (omitted)

can anyone tell me how reynolds got another game?
it's for his own good that he have a game in the twos, surely?

Reynolds was good against St Kilda, keeping aussie jones quiet and getting some of it himself. And wasn't he on Wirrapunda who didn't see much of it till Reynolds went off?

Henneman is obviously being given every chance to prove himself. However if Bradley and Laycock continue on with their efforts for Bendigo then there will be a couple of talls looking over their shoulders I believe, one of whom would be Henneman.

Would rather have Hunt than Henneman in the side too. However time is probably running out for both of those two gentlemen.

indeed Hennemen at CHF seems like a way of giving up scoring avenues to me...

I wonder why you didn't mention our game against the Roos? Should've won, but they're in far better form than both of us. With last year's match, we were the better team on the day - simple as that. Essendon however, were the better team on the year. Makes you think what would happen if Port don't crumble under finals pressure...

Anywho, both teams would want to make a statement. I think we'll be under less pressure than you guys because so many people expect Essendon to finish top four and Calrton last. With three rounds in, it doesn't look like it does it? Most people were tipping Geelong to beat us for god's sake - an indication that we're perhpas not the rabble of last year that people still think we are. Generally, I'm not expecting much from my team this year - only a couple to few places up and competitiveness will suffice. Even through we're higher up n the ladder and have better percentage, both teams are even.

I just wouldn't call Essendon one of the form teams, mainly because your first round loss was that bad. But anyway, no supporter from either side should be predicting a large magin. Remember, that Roos supporters had exaclty the same mindset (and perhaps the players too). If Essendon supporters/players come under that mindset - they'll be in for a mighty shock!

Interesting to say that if you lose this it's due to complacency? BS. If that happens then we'll be 2-2 and you'll be 1-3, that DOES indicate that you got beaten by the better team, no? What if Carlton finish higher at the end of the season - will it be due to complacency too? I don't think that will happen by the way, I have Essendon penciled in at 6th place. The ladder never lies - and neither does percentage. In fact, I reckon percentage is probably the best indicator of a temas worth and whether they dominated or were spanked. This is why I think we were worse than the Bullies last year - even though they finished last, percentage showed otherwise.

It'll be a bloody close game, that's for sure. If we can stop/limit Lloyd and Hird/Pev, we will win. If Essendon can shut down Fevola and Stevens/Scotland, then you'll win. Rucks will negate each other, our 2nd tier players won't win us the match and Hulme will be WOG.

We just fell over the line for a 37 point win against a very unlucky carlton who should have beaten us by 10 goals as they are a clearly a much better team as pointed out by most carlton fans.

Any win against the carlton juggernuat is a great achievement. This was our grand final. Not since the day "Buster" Douglas dropped a cocky Mike Tyson to the canvas has there been a greater upset.

We may not win another game this year but to beat the leagues best team makes it a great year no matter what happens from here on in.

The creators of these threads from opposition clubs must feel incredibly stupid when the game is done and dusted.

And they call us a cocky bunch ... ha! :o
