I am getting very excited about McPhee as his last 2 games have been abolsutely awesome. He had a great year last year but has gone up a few notches this year. He is fast becoming a star. He is becoming vital to the bombers.

He has the confidence and respect to really stamp his presence on proceedings with great strong contested marks and good work in close. He has a strong body and is quick. That goal he kicked was awesome. He just stormed off through the 50 to kick a great goal. And to think he is only 21.

Reckon this trade will be one of the best on record when we look back in years to come. I know Caracella is a good player but he was on the wane slightly at Essendon.

Caracella for Cupido and McPhee. Both awesome talents as we have seen so far.

A major asset to Essendon and one of our top pick-ups. He has helped with a lot of run out of the backline and is a superb mark. He loves foating into the pack to take the ball away at the last second.

He has improved with confidence and skill. Has taken the next step to be a player who will come second in our B&F this yr if he continues in this form!

I think the thing that makes him so good is his agility and speed for his size. He can play key position but also has the fitness to run all day. I agree that this trade was awesome and just proves that Sheeds knew what he was doing when he traded away Caracella.

B&F would be , Hird, Smokey and Dean Rioli, at the moment. He is an absolute marvel Smokey.

Still think Hird's not as good as he used to be, and consigned to only cameo's from now on, Johnny?

What makes it better is that he was a Don as a kid (still is I'd imagine!). So he'll be with us for some time. :)

A lot of other players are also kicking quite a few clangers, everyone needs to improve their kicking (this is also for the sake of the argument)

Hird is playing his most damaging football at the moment and for the the last two years has been at least equal to 95\96.

Do you actually watch football Dan?

Most people I've spoken to about the footy lately all believe that Hird is playing the best football of his career at the moment. (including most of last year as well)

We have never relied on Hird as much as we are now, and he is consistently standing up, taking control of a game, and pretty much handing us a win each time.

I think he's playing better than he ever has.

I also think that if we lost him now, we'd be ****ed.

I agree with everything you said.

HOWEVER

Losing Caracella was a big loss. He kicked major goals at crunch times of games. We're yet to find a suitable full-time replacement for him. Cupido is good but hes still struggling in the VFL. McPhee is just an awesome player. Very impressed with him. Hes hard at the ball, hes quick.. Everything the Bombers need.

when?
i think the 99 prelim and 2002 final against port were crunch games, and he failed to deliver in either of them.

Your first part of your post says "Do you actually watch football Dan?"

It seems I watch football, but you don't read my posts correctly. My post (to windyhill) had a question mark at the end of it, and it was in response to Johnny assertion (a year or so ago, I might add) that Hird wasn't as good as he used to be. Perhaps instead of starting my post with the word "Still", I should have started it with the words, "Do you" (i.e do you still believe...etc)

For the record, I do believe, like most of us, that Hird is in the best form of his career at the moment. So please, read my posts correctly next time. Okay? :)

Or I could argue that you didn't make your post very clear.

Yes, that's how I read it. (I thought you were making a statement and then asking Johnny for his opinion)

Anyway, my apologies.

Although in my own defence, coming up with stupid bullsh|t comments that go against what everybody else believes has always been your specialty Dan, so you can't blame me for reading your post the way I did. ;)

I think it would be a bit early to say he is a star

he has to potential to be one, but i like to see him play at this level for a bit longer then 5 games
