hows cupido coming along?

did he get a run in the magoos last week?

i think we shouldnt make too many changes. It wont hurt to give the guys a run in the twos as they have missed a lot of footy.

Yep but apparently did next to nothing.

JJ and MJ in for starters. Bullen too if fit (any ideas if he'll be right?). McVeigh maybe, my only concern is 4 guys coming in from injuries vs a top 4 team from last season.

I'd like to see Stanton play again, i thought he was decent, but maybe it'll be better for him to play a full game in the 2's.

Dyson has to stay.

LM i'm not sure about. He's unpredictability could be handy vs the Swans, but if we bring 3 or more guys in he'll probably be first to go. Richards in a similar spot.

So maybe:
In: JJ, MJ, Bullen
Out: LM, Stanton, Richards

If Bullen doesn't come up i'd keep LM or Richards in, just for another forward target if Lloyd is contained.

Doubt McVeigh will come in, nor Cupido given he has only had one hitout.

Would expect JJ, Watson and Bullen to come in. LM, Stanton, Richards, Mercuri to be possibly dropped (won't expect Mercuri to be dropped but his form must have him on thin ice)- maybe Mark Johnson to come in although he possibly needs a run in the twos with McVeigh.

No change

Anyone returning from injury (particularly hamstrings) needs some game time in the twos before returning into the ones.

Possible emergencies (i.e. named in the best from Friday nite) Watson, Hunt, with Cupido

JJ straight in. But McVeigh and MJ have missed a fair while with consecutive hamstrings iirc, would do them good to ease themselves into it at Bendigo

Im sure Cupido will get a game due entirely to the fact the LM will be dropped due to his undiciplined performance on AD. also we have to get him in sooner or later we cant keep going around without our second major forward against good sides it will cost us to much... and Not to be blunt Cupido playing badly is twice the player LM is currently on 2... JJ will play as will Watson if he comes up... wouldnt be surprised to see Richards out.

so...

Out: Richards LM
In: Cupido JJ

team will line up as last week except hille and Allen will rest forward rather than on the bench.

In. J.Johnson
Out. N.Lovett-Murray

Only one change i reckon this week. I think mcveigh and Mark Johnson need a run in the VFL before coming back from there hamstring injuries. Looks like we may have a star studded VFL team this week if M.Johnson, McVeigh, Cupido, Bullen, Watson all play.

In: Laycock, J. Johnson, M.McVeigh
Out: Richards, Alvey, Stanton

Give Laycock a chance, he's been in excellent form for Bendigo and its not like Sydney are hard to beat down here and with JJ coming back alongside Hird in the form he's in we can afford to give MJ another week to make sure its right and hopefully get a full season out of him.

I thought Cupido kicked 2 goals?

I mean, not exactly setting the world on fire, but it's not doing next to nothing either.

28 Apr 2004, 11:32
ess can't afford to underestimate Sydney. They are a side that can do damage anywhere they play.
If the Johnsons are right, bring em back in.
Cupido may be worth a run, heard mixed reports about 2's form... IMHO he has the potential to be dangerous any week and form from the weekend before is not always a good indication.

south melbourne/sydney havent beaten us at the 'G' since 1923 and havent beaten us in melbourne since 89 at windy hill.

yeah... u click delte post :D

On the otherside, i do somewhat agree with him, this is a different Sydney side esspecially having lost to Melbourne... will be ready and firing... battle of the Full Forwards and the Half Back lines :D

I just read that both Johnson's are coming straight back into the team while McVeigh and Cupido will play for Bendigo. I agree with bringing Jason Johnson coming straight back in but i really think Mark Johnson needs a week in the VFL.

Smokin_Joe
28 Apr 2004, 19:43
that stat is genuine...unbelievable huh?

i'd bring cupes in if he's fit enough

sydney will either disrespect him and he'll kill em or he'll take a little of the spotlight off lloyd.

lloyds record againt sydney is pretty impressive

Cupido and McVeigh will play in the VFL, probably Watson too.
IN: JJ and MJ-(that make me nervous)
OUT: Stanton and Richards OR Lovett-Murray

Bullen might come in for Alvey if he recovers from a corky

I hope the selection team does not go with Henneman, as he is coming off an injury and average form therefore does not deserve it.

The selection team clearly do not agree, but I would leave Misiti and Mercuri out of our best 22 these days. It appears they are well past their prime and are no longer capable of running out a full game. Leave it to the next generation!!

Whoever said to omit Alvey is a moron.

JJ, MJ, McVeigh, Bullen... All fit and ready to go. Why waste time?

Cupido needs another week in the twos.

Cupido13
29 Apr 2004, 15:58
I am not sure I see why Cupido needs another week in the 2's. I think he should be straight back in the seniors (provided he is fully fit). He doesn't need to be on the ground for more than a half to have a major effect on the game and he is deadly around goals, he would be more use that Lovett-Murray even if he wasn't fully fit yet. Lovett Murray may have potential but he is not even a shadow of Cupido yet, he may well be in the future, but, we can't afford to be without Cupido any longer.

joey looked lost last week against the pies, so that was coming. Good strength returning to the midfield too.

Did you see last week's team as top heavy? Because there are fewer talls in this weeks team.

I'm pretty happy with it

How did Stanton keep his spot. He's a kid so I don't mind him playing as he looks promising - but dropping Joey for a hard slog in the wet and leaving 2 skinny kids in the team. Strange. Didn't think Stanton did enough to keep his spot - not that he needs to do much just yet - but surely Bendigo is where he should be - bulking up and learning his craft.

BRING BACK JOEY!!

And how could Mercs stay ahead of him. 1 good quarter for the whole season?????

Woulda been good to see Mark McVeigh play against his little brother Jarrod. But JV is in the twos this week.
