When it was first announced that we would play a home match in Brisbane I thought that would be OK. But now I am undecided. I was sent all this crap from Melbourne yesterday about the benefits. Is all the money they make from this game worth 4 POINTS. I am starting to think not. If this game was in melbourne I would be confident of a win despite last week's game. The fact is Brisbane is unbeatable up there and they are s**t in Melbourne. They are an 8 - 10 goal better side at home. If we miss out on the eight by a game, I know what to blame it on.

i so agree with you dees01! i mean seriously it isnt worth it, to play a home game up at the GABBA. what did the club hope to gain out of it, except a bit of extra cash? how much is it exactly?????? 300,000 400,000 bucks???? for what? an 8 to 10 goal drubbing. Well done MFC admin, u really stuffed this up.

I really don't see the point in playing home games outside your own state.

Sure, you make an extra $200,000, but if you play 2 games there, you will make $400,000, and if you play 4 games there, you will make $800,000. In fact, if you play 11 home games there, you will make 2.2 million. Where will it stop? It's ridiculous.

Melbourne is a "Melbourne" based club and they should be playing in Melbourne. Not only does it make NO sense to play a home match at an away venue, but it disrupts the credibility of the draw. The draw lack enough credibility as it is. It sure as hell doesn't need Melbourne playing a home match against Brisbane in Brisbane to wreck the credibilty even more.

I mean, if the money is so damn important, they might as well play all 11 home games there. Obviously no one wants that, so therefore it should be either all or nothing. Either play all your home games here, or none of them. Obviously the dee fans want to play 11 home games here in Melbourne.

I'd be very upset with the executives at your club, if I were you lot. You should at least contact the club to tell them what you think, or the farce will continue year after year.

I agree with u Dan. 100 % (never thought I would say that). BUT the thing is, u ring them and tell them or u write a letter and they dont give a toss, cos the venture is making them money so they dont care about us. Quite frankly I dont care, if we lose the Admin dept are the ones to blame, and they will be getting a a phone call from a little black demon duck in adelaide on monday morning, telling them exactly what I think of them, and if they keep it up, what they can do with their memberships, cos quiet frankly I am sick of it. .

And if anybody else wants to complain then the person u get in contact with is Mark Evans, Communications Manager.

I wonder if Neale and the footy dept had any say????? probably not, they dont have a say in anything else.

(How did u like my use of capitals Dan? pretty nifty aint it? :D )

dee_girl9,

Put it his way: If you make the finals you will be happy. If you miss the finals by a game, there will be a big backlash towards the club for giving away a home game and the club might abandon it in the future. So, if you DO miss the finals by a game, it could be a positive, because the club won't play a home match in Brisbane again. (hopefully, anyway)

You should give the club a sarcastic reply, by saying something like: Dear Sir/Madam, If we are getting so much cash for one home game, then why not play all 11 home games up there? We will be rich.

I wonder what their reply to that would be.

Yes, you use of capital letters was very good. Perfect, in fact. :D

Try a 5 year contract to play a home game up there against the Lions. PFT. It is not worth it.

Yeah, but contracts can be abandoned by mutual agreement. You'd think if Melbourne lose badly, it will cause the club to re-think their position.

If the club loses badly, it will appear as if the club has put money ahead of winning games, which won't be good for the image of the club.

The funny thing is, you could mis the finals by a game and be $200,000 richer. But if you played all your home matches in Melbourne, but you "snuck" into the finals, you would probably make more than $200,000 (or more) in cash from playing finals football.

And yes it is a 5 year deal.
The wrong decision has been made for the wrong reasons.

DeeGal 9 NEALE DANIHER AND THE FOOTY DEPART. HAD THE FINAL SAY!!! You can check this out if you like.
The Lions were scouting around to find clubs here in Melb. to play games in Brisbane.....and yes we were one of those suckers.....who again sold our souls to the devil....as during the merger!!!

$200,000 a game...not worth it.....I

Fitzroy James has a good attitude on this however, perhaps we should be more positive......but its hard to imagine us hitting back hard after that demoralising loss....its so hard to beat the Lions up there.....we don;t have a good record against them at the Gabba.

Dan, you are 110% Melbourne is a Melbourne Club and should promote themselves as such.......have been absolutely pathetic in the past re promoting this club.....and yes, Joe has been a little negligent on this too....However, I just think he never really had the right people in place administratively....... we are/have been so incredibily conservative on all matters!!!

I think we should all ring and email the club on this bad decision...I did last year....but was rubbished for speaking up ..saying we should be fine, as we are now travelling well (travelling in the sense of playing well....) and of course, its NOT THE CASE NOW.
