Looks like we'll be without both vs Geelong, and maybe longer. 2 of our best ball winners and users, not to mention leaders.
I guess a lot will depend on the VFL today, but who do you think ?
Bullen will probably get more game time for starters.
Let's hope Haynes is ready.

Noone really stood out in the VFL loss just now.
Bradley, Watson, Richards, Dyson. 2 of those i'd think.
Mercs went off with a sore knee.

Expect Hird to miss this week, but I'd say Rioli is a better than even chance of playing ... all reports today have been very positive about him.
Richards wasn't a stand out today in the VFL, but he'd be a chance - Alvey and Dyson will come under consideration.

That's certainly good news. I fkn love Rio.
I think the news on Rioli is he will be ok. Hird looks like he will be out for 4 or 5. I thought Watson was our best today although he struggled with the wind a few times spraying his kicks. Didnt think Dyson did a lot and neither did stanton today. Alvey got a few touchs but wasnt outstanding. richards played ok.

Dr Bruce Reid:
"He has bled into the anterior chamber of his eye - it is known as a hyphema," Essendon club doctor Bruce Reid said this morning. "His treatment will involve total rest for 10 days and he will take eye drops that will dilate and rest the pupil. He will also use some cortisone drops to reduce the inflammation."
"He won't be allowed any physical activity in that time and will remain at home unless he is being reviewed by his specialist. The reason for this rest is to prevent a secondary bleed which can have more serious consequences."
"Provided the blood resorbs quickly and there is no increased pressure in the eye he will miss a minimum of two weeks. If the response is slow his comeback will be adjusted accordingly."
Ouch!
A few years ago I remember Rodney Eade saying one (Sydney) player had a detatched retina.
Pretty unlucky injuries. Makes the stomach squirm!
Also, I don't think Hird has had a long term injury (more than 2 weeks) which isn't out of poor luck since his foot in 99. Correct me if I'm wrong.
His face in 02 was one, then his calf last year when someone fell on him and now this. Seems to find new ways to ruin his own body.
I'd be looking at Dyson/Alvey as a replacement for Rioli (who i hope manages to 'get up' for next week as he has been in great form). I would look at Richards replacing Hird.

Yes.
Definitely.
Alvey over Dyson, for mine - I want to see what this bloke can do.
Making a rapid improvement according to the official site.

And Deano is expected to play too!
Good news.
