I recall at that time that Wallet ( roughly from memory )
We need a tall but we will go with the best footballer or words to that effect. I think that footballer was Shane Birs.
So what tall did we miss out on, who came later in that draft.
Shane Wakelin, Sav Rocca, Graham Johncock, Drew Petrie, Martin Pike, Mark Bullen.

The player we missed was Guy Richards who is at Collingwood.
Not sure how he's going but last I checked is struggling to get a game.
Birss is good player, won a rising star nomination. Unfortuneately, he is yet another victim of Rhode 'Our Mastermind' Ha!

Whats your point spotty sorry, sporty.
By us do you mean the blind faithful ANS. NO
By support do you mean Financial ANS: It costs me in the order of $2K a year in members packages for myself and several less fortunate family members.
By us do you mean the team ANS About half a dozen of them. Granty is one of them.
By us do you mean the club in general ANS. Regretably. I was branded young and bare the scar with pain and sorrow.
Birs and Gilby I have said bugger against these two. But never let the facts get in the way of your poor attention.

I don't think he's doubting your passion Trooper, just your literacy skills...
lighten up mate, we all agree someone needs a kick in the arse. No use beefin' with each other, we're not the ones on six-figure salaries infuriating our fans...

Guy Richards played a good game in the ruck for Collingwood tonight.
I still think Birss can become a good player for us. What I don't get is the lack of opportunities given to him this season. Wasn't even considered for the Wizard Cup and was never even named as an emergency before he was injured.
He finished last year well and was good in the intra-club match I saw in February, so my guess is he was caught slacking off in the pre-season or something like that.
Still, we desperately need an accountable defensive midfielder and he has far more natural ability than Boyd and Cross. Hope he gets a run in the second half of the season.

Wallet haha dat iz funny
We got Skipper late in that draft. Clayton had him in mind all along and knew they could get him late, hence going for best available with the pick in question.

Petrie went a few selections earlier than Birss, and as for the other blokes (other than Johncock/Bullen), although they've had a few good seasons (unusally strong draft for recycled types), in general picking up delisted 26-28 year olds in the second round will burn you.
What we should have done was target them in the trade period (instead of Harrison), offering third and fourth round picks. A spine of Rocca - Grant - West - Wakelin - Croft would probably have seen us win a couple more games (and finish in the finals) in both 2001 and 2002.
