What was Doc Wheildon's defence, when reported for shaking a goalpost in the last game of 1993?

Dunno.

Thought it was a player?

i spoke to gavin dore who reported him for shaking the goal post. he said that the ball was sailing through for a point, and doc's shake made it a goal. i think doc pleaded "diplomatic immunity" at the tribunal

Good suggestions Mobbenfuhrer & Noel Mugavin. His real defence was just as silly, but probably true.

There was a bird on top of the post and he tried to shoo it away because he didn't want the poor thing to be in danger of getting hit?

He was very nervous, and just happened to be clutching the goalpost?

I once heard someone say that S.Loewe had perfected the art of shaking the goal post at just the right time in order to salvage a goal out of a slightly off-line kick.

Not sure if that was true, but he sure seemed to bump into the goal posts on quite a number of occasions, in St.Kilda of years gone by.

Olmy, didn't he get reported for that? He either got a fine, or was outed for one week.

Maybe Doc thought the goalpost was Dean Irving, and wanted to see if he could get him to move at all.

Perhaps he thought that the kick was finally going to go through for a Roys goal, and wanted to 'touch wood'.

That's the best suggestion yet :D I like the idea.

His real excuse was that he wasn't shaking the goalpost, he was trying to climb it.

Apparently he climbed a goalpost during one of his Under 19 games with the Roys in early 1989.
