Just copying a thread from Darky over at the North forum: How many games have you Bomber fans been to? This does not include interstate games that you watched on TV. This is only games that you have physically been to. If I counted all the non-Essendon games, I could probably add about 50 more to this list, but these are strictly Bomber games only (not counting Ansett Cup, just home and away and finals) Mine are as follows:

1982 - 1 (vs North Melbourne at the MCG)
1983 - None I think.
1984 - 1 (vs Footscray at Western Oval)
1985 - None I think
1986 - None I think
1987 - 2
1988 - NIL !!!
1989 - 5 (4 + 1 final)
1990 - 9 (6 +3 finals)
1991 - 9 (8 + 1 final)
1992 - 14 missed 5 games in Victoria.
1993 - 19 (15 + 4 finals) missed 3 games in Victoria.
1994 - 16 missed 3 games in Victoria
1995 - 18 (16 + 2 finals) missed two games in Victoria.
1996 - 18 (17 + 1 final) missed one game in Victoria.
1997 - 16 - went to all games in Victoria
1998 - 19 (18 + 1 final) - missed two games in Victoria.
1999 - 19 (17 + 2 finals) - went to all games in Victoria.
2000 - 21 (18 + 3 finals) - went to all games in Victoria.
2001 - 10 - all so far in Victoria.

Started being able to go regularly once I was about 14 or 15, and I could go with my mates. Could only get out to Waverley or Windy Hill in 1989-90 if I could coax the old man into taking me!

Geez Dan, what's happening?

First, you nick my idea for a "good bloke" poll.
Then you nick Jod23's idea with a word game.
Then you nick Mobbenfuhrer's idea (as I did) for a "how many games" thread - and nicked my thread title.

I didn't think that after flogging the dead horses that are your theories about 1999, you would resort to copying so many ideas. I thought you would just change arms.

Darky's just crook on yer for giving him a run for his money in the veteran stakes ...

Darky - 206 games
Dan - 197 games
Mobbenfuhrer - 151 games (not counting 3 reserve finals)

Maybe now, with the Fitzroy Reds, I'll finally see some finals footy LOL!

... just wait til some of the old buggers jump on and quote matches they've been to since the 60s! Or earlier!

Imiatation is the sincerest form of flattery, Darky. At least I'm not claiming them as my own ideas :D

What's wrong with using a good idea, anyway?

Interesting Topic.
Remember my first game in 87. North vs Bulldogs at the G, Beasley kicked a bag and I think the game was a draw.
Went to a few VFA games in brunswick.
Played a few games in the little league, worst ground was western oval, although they had alright changerooms.
I started going to a ****load of games then. In 97 after I got my MCC membership went to about two games a weekend, and havent missed an Essendon match for almost 3 years. Missed one in 98 cuase I was sick and couldnt get to waverly.

Well, as Mobenfuhrer posted above, I have been to 197 Bomber games. I have probably been to roughly 250 games, when you add up all the non-Essendon games I've been to. (I go to all the finals for example)

My 200th ESSENDON game will be against Geelong at Colonial Stadium in Round 14, so let's hope the boys can have a big win for me.:p ;)

Don't worry dude, I was just takin' the piss.

As for my veteran status, Mobbs, I really didn't think 206 was that much of a big deal. Anyway, if the Roos keep up this Canberra/Sydney garbage (or if we miss the finals), Dan will overtake me sooner rather than later.

Surely there must be some long-time supporters (40 years plus), who can maybe register 600-700, even if it's just an estimate.

Spot on Darky, 1990 never happened. It's all a myth perpetuated by the McGuires ;)

My dad's been to virtually every game I have and he started going in the late 40's so I'd say he'd be somewhere around that.

1999 - Fremantle
2001 - North
2001 - Port Adelaide
2001 - Carlton
2001 - Collingwood
2001 - Richmond
2001 - Hawthorn

A whopping grand total of 7 for me. But I guess that's pretty good, considering I've spent all but 8 months of my life on the wrong side of the globe.

1987 - 1 game

1988 - 0 games

1989 - 3 games* (* attended 3 finals only)

NOTE: 1987- 89: Lack of attendance due to Wally's commitment to his own senior football. Not to mention the profound influence of alcohol and the female form of the species :p

After back problems and constant leg injuries from mid - '88 and the whole of '89, Wally breaks his leg 1990 pre-season. Comeback aborted after Wally tears hamstring in his first game back (mid '90). Wally spits dummy and retires, thus ending a promising senior career. Finished at 21 years of age. :(

I've been to around 50 matches all up. Became a member in 1997. Went to eight or nine matches before that. My first game was in '93 against the Bulldogs late in the season where Derrick Kickett was on absolute fire.

My first game was at Windy Hill in 1981 versus Carlton. I remember it was pretty muddy that day and if memory serves Carlton were leading at half time, but our boys, led by Simon Madden, came back and registered a good win. Dad had made a little wooden stool for me to stand on so that I could see. We use to stand on the flank, somewhere in the outer between the scoreboard and what became known as the Kevin Walsh stand on the wing there, near where the bowling club almost jutted onto the ground.

Living in the country we only got to three or four games a year, but later when I was older I'd catch the train to Melbourne with some mates and we went regularly.

Then of course I got my licence and first car, and anytime when I wasn't playing footy myself, it was done to Melbourne to watch the boys.

Unfortunately I haven't seen a game for eight years as I know live in the remote north west of this great country of ours and the footy is a long way away. I have to satisfy myself by running out each week to play for the Halls Creek Hawks, but my battered old body is just about to give up on me.

One consolation of being so far away is that we get all the action on television - at least five of the eight games each weekend!

my first game was in 84 as a two year old, i cant remember much, i went to probably 5 games that year and then probably about 10 games in 85-85-87
since 88 i have only missed 3 victorian games i think
one was at whitten oval against the bulldogs, i missed a game against west coast in 99 because of my grandmothers funeral
and i also missed a game in 94 cause of a footy camp
i have probably been to about 10 interstate matches, possibly a couple more

went to most s-o-o matches, remember going to one against wa at the mcg in about 92 and sitting next to willie ****, hirdy, peter cransberg, rick olarenshaw and mercs
also went to that last one m29

missed one grand final since 87 and that was 91

How do you guys remember exactly how many games you've attended in a year? For example, in 93, I have no idea which games I went to except for all our Finals. From about 93-97 I went to about 30-35 on average AFL games for each of those years, however there is no way I can remember exactly which ones I did and didnt go.

Haha, this reminds of a conversation I had with a mate a while ago no actually. We were talking about Grand Finals, and for some reason we started talking about the 94 Grand Final. My mate remembered the day, where he was, and asked me where I was that day. I couldnt remember for the life of me! I remembered being at home for the 92 Geel-WCE game, but 94 had me stumped. Where the hell did I watch it??

Anyway, I decided to call the old man and ask, see if he knew. He goes, yea, I remember that game, I watched it at home - but you, I cant remember. Eventually he remembered - I was bloody there!!!! hahaha what a d!ckhead I am!

Ive been to only 5 GF's in my life, 87, 93,94,95,2000 (90 never happened - myth!) and I bloody forgot one of em! ah well!

I reckon all up in the AFL/VFL Ive been to about 300-350 odd games. I would love to know exactly how many Ive been to tho!

Because football is not a matter of life and death, it's far more important than that.

windhill,

You said you missed a WCE game that we just won. Which game was it? 87, 93, or 94?

Those three years are our three narrow wins over the Eagles.

I think the `87 game.....I remember the game where we had 15~16 fit players, the windsock game, very emotional day as the boys just went down.Standing ovation from everyone fortunate to witness this game, probably my favourite "loss" if there is such a thing !

Wonder if i can claim the most seen Essendon games from a non-essendon supporter?

Started going to Windy Hill about the same time as windyhill?! 72/3 with an older (he was 9, i was 7) mate. Went to at least 40 Dons game with him between 72-77. Then didnt seem them for awhile after i finally convinced mum i was mature enough to travel to see the Hawks on my own (i still maintain i would have been fine at 7 or 8, but no 12 was her idea of mature). Then in the Eighties if for whatever reason (sunday game, night games) the Hawks didnt clash with a Dons fixture (or vice versa) my Dons mate and i would head to each others respective clashes. This became more so in the nineties.

Its only this year where he has settled down and got a missus that i havent been to a Dons game that the Hawks (and the less said about that the better) played in, ie one.

So all up, id say it would have to be between 80 - 100. Hell, thats better than some of your own! :p

All up, though between 400 - 500 (say 450 for arguments sake) id guess, thats going on an average of at least 20 games a season for nearly twenty five years. Lost count way to many years ago.

I'm in Sydney [frustrated sigh} where it's damn near impossible to see them on TV!!!!!

Been into AFL only since last year so.....

2000 -Swanies....full SCG wow...made friends who invited me to
2000 ANZAC ...full MCG..rocked!
2000 Carlton..even fuller MCG ...great night
2001 Season opener...Roo cull....sat near M. Long
2001 Swanies....fun time...who's this guy Peverill?
2001 Carlton...coming up shortly! Can't wait....that weekend might combine with another blockbuster.. Pies/Richmond and the film fest. And of course Sunday the markets and then reading the papers over a beer and burger at Sloppy Petes (or whatever it's called) at St Kilda.
