I was reading an article on John Barker and how he feels fortunate to still be playing in the AFL and it got me wondering about all the Fitzroy boys still in the AFL.

It got me thinking about who would be likely to still be on an AFL roster next season...

Chris Johnson - Certain to play in 2005
John Barker - I reckon if Schwab gets the boot, Barker might be gone, otherwise he'll stay.
Martin Pike - Certain to play in 2005
Matthew Primus - Certain to play in 2005 despite knee problems.
Shane Clayon - Not getting much game time nowadays, I reckon he'll be delisted at the end of the season.
Rowan Warfe - If he can stay uninjured for the rest of this season, I reckon he'll be playing in 2005

Not many left is there :(

I didn't count
Daniel Ward - 1996 rookie list
Alastair Lynch - I consider him more of a Brisbane player.

We might be running out of Fitzroy players at the AFL end of the game but we are starting to get some genuine Fitzroy players from the suburb of Fitzroy playing with the Fitzroy VAFA team. Young Michael Gleeson from the FJFC and star player for the Fitzroy Reds U19s, starred for the senior team agst Yarra Valley today. It's no different to the 1940s & 50s when Billy Stephen, Don Furness,Butch Gale and the young Muzza together with dozens of other local lads pulled on the FFC jumper.
There is a new FITZROY rising from the ASHES boys.
Forget the past. The Football you knew has gone. Come down to Punt Rd next Saturday afternoon and have a look at the future.
