Like the hoops , it doesn t worry me that our song is the best or the worst.Thats conjecture what isnt is the pride I feel when its played at the footy. Its ours and Im proud to heard it played as the come on to the ground , proud to sing it, proud when my kids wearing the hoops are singing it, proud to be a part this mighty Cat family

So I wonder why we never hear the full song?
-----------------------------------------------------
We are Geelong, the greatest team of all,
We are Geelong, We're always on the ball,
We play the game, as it should be played
at home or far away
our banners fly high, from dawn to dark
down at Kardinia Park!

(Second verse hardly sung)
So stand up and fight, remember our tradition
so stand up and fight, it's always been our ambition
throughout the game we fight with all our might
cause we are blue and white
and from when the ball is bounced, to the final bell
STAND UP AND FIGHT LIKE HELL!
-----------------------------------------------------

Are we ashamed of the full song. Why even on our web site do we say the 2nd verse is hardly sung.
Id love to be able to get a bit of the "Blue and White" going as per Tigers.Just last night as the boys ran on the ground, Id love to given the "Blue and White" in the dome as it really has a great atmosphere.
I dont care if there is no longer a bell I just wont them to stand up and fight like hell !!!

I suppose the problem is that the only decent version of our song, sung by the Fable Singers, is the first half only.

They've recorded versions with the entire song, it just sounds ****house.

Maybe but surely there are a multitude of talented music producers and artists that could make decent version of it.Something inspiring and little less ragtime would be my preference.

I like the second verse, but agreed all the new club songs or remixes are all ****ehouse...it would need to be good.

It's funny, I was thinking of this after the game on Saturday night.

In that tragic telstra dome nightclub 'the Locker Room' they played a bizarre polka version of our song. It goes about about two times the speed of the regular version.

I got to thinking - Geelong has tried to change, or at least tried to introduce a 'second' club song several times over the years.

Come on the Cats - This was given a big push in the mid eighties (roughly)
Barry Crocker sang it live at KP before the game one day. There were dancing girls and everything.

chorus i can remember - "Come on the Cats, Come on the Cats. We'll show em all the way our team can play."

Cat Attack - Mid 90's.
I think they used to play this before the game. It was pretty cool Actually. :)

verse I can remember - 'It's a Cat Attack (Go Cats!) A Cat Attack (Geelong!)

Cat Magic - Can't remember much about this one.
It was had some kind of lounge bar sinatra vibe.

"Give me that 'ol Cat Magic"

Where have these pushes for a new song come from?
I'm glad the club has stopped trying to give us new songs (for now at least)

Have other clubs experimented with different or 'second' song?

And do any of you guys remember these songs?

Perhaps Dennis Walters and Barry Crocker are available?

Nobody sings the second verse because hardly anyone knows it, the club went for many years with just the one verse, which is the only one most people know.

If thats true JimBoy then they have done a little bit of cut and paste because I can remember singing the last couple of lines :

and from when the ball is bounced, to the final bell
STAND UP AND FIGHT LIKE HELL!

It would be interesting to talk to the person who wrote the song , I think it was the player Watts from WA in the sixties

I remeber that Barry Crocker song and "BarryCrocker" isnt rhyming slang for shocker for nothing.Nor would I use Walters or Somers. My preference might not be for all but I would want to go for class rather than mass appeal. If I was going to redo the song Id like it be a grand, stylish version of the song, something that would make the hairs on the back of your neck standup, like the original opera would have.Something to inspire like "Do you hear the people sing.." from Le Miserable.

I had a tape of the theme song and that song was on it too. You're right, top song.

Many clubs have a second verse in their theme song. Of the old theme songs, none contain the second verse.

Only the newer, modern day these songs are in full.
