As a person who grew up when footy was only played on a Saturday afternoon, the plethora of Sunday Matches so far this season is really starting to annoy me.
At the completion of Round 9, we have played 6 Sunday matches, including one on a Sunday evening. This may be fine for some, but I am busy on Sundays and don't get much chance to follow my team.
This week we finally get to play on a Saturday ... against a team who will have had 2 more days to recover. Where's this wonderful draw Hawthorn were supposed to have?
i agree candyman,i used to love it when all games were on saturday arvo...annoys me aswell that we play so many sunday games...i have a feeling why...here is my theory..
the hawks pride themselves on being the family club and by having sunday games they are trying to encourage mums and dads to take their kids to the footy on sunday...nice thought but,,,
dont most kids play footy themselves on a sunday..???
i know where i come from in melbourne, senior teams play saturday, juniors play sunday making it hard for them to get to a game....

It wasent that long ago that Ian Dicker was pitching Hawthorns new home at the MCG to the members by claiming we were the Saturday afternoon club of Victoria in the AFL. In our first couple of years at the G all but a few of the Hawthorn home games were on the traditional Saturday arvo. Whether this was not a marketable strategy or the AFL simply rejected it I dont know but there is no doubt that Saturday afternoon fixturing lost its appeal to the decision makers somewhere along the line. Its a shame really as I still believe this is the preferred option of our supporters. Despite what the likes of Sheahan say, Sunday footy is a bloody inconvenience and Friday/Saturday night a light beer fueled insult. Hopefully when the new ( badly needed ) regime takes office at Hawkland there will be a renewed push for more games on the Sabbath.

If this is the case, I just hope the Hawks don't pick up Sandy Kofax.

Seeing as it took Hawthorn about eighty years to get an Aboriginal onto its playing list I'm pretty sure a Jewish player is a long way off.
