View Full Version : We are going to lose the Coaching race
drekker

We are not the only club who may be looking for a new coach. Adelaide will be starting their search early, along with who knows how many other clubs.
If we keep scratching together a few feeble wins, end up around 10th again, we not only end up with no decent draft picks (that come with losses) and no revenue (that comes with success), but the fact that we waited until end-of-season to do a coaching review means that all the good alternative coaches will have already been signed up by other -smarter- clubs.
Why do you think we have been average for so long?
It's because there is a rut that clubs get stuck in in AFL due to the draft system, if you end up between 12th and 8th on the ladder, you will be there for eternity because you aren't a winning club, so good players rarely want to play for you, and your not a losing club, so you keep getting the 10th best draftees, who show promise but are just not champions.
I can only think of one solution to break the rut we are in, which is to have a big clean out and a year or three near the bottom of the ladder.

Can't disagree with this. We are lacking players in all depts and we have recruited players who are clearly not up to AFL standard ala fletcher, nichols, pettifer, fleming, rodan, and persist with players who who should have gone ages ago ala hilton, D kellaway, rogers. We also find ourselves with an ageing list and no prospects coming up. Richo, campbell, gaspar, stafford, all coming to the end of their career. The future looks bleak im afraid.

I actually think the future looks brighter than what many think.
Positive #1 - IMO there is no doubt Frawley will not be there after this year. A few cheap wins against duds will not hide the fact he is hopeless. Other changes to coaching staff should also follow.
Positive #2 - Surely Miller has noticed that much of our senior list are unco-ordinated, untalented hacks, and will be gone at the end of the year. Retirements of dinosaurs will hopefully also occur.
Positive #3 - Some of the more consistent performers this year have been those under the age of 22. Also is some hope that others not yet tested will develop into handy players as well.
Years of mediocrity have often tried to be patched up with a few uninspirational, over-the-hill rescruits (ie Hudson, Sziller etc). Would gladly experience a couple of years down the bottom to bring in some YOUNG talent, who actually possess football skills and ability, and are willing to develop together as a team. Performances like Sat. night will only add fuel to the clean-out process.

Anyone else think that we should maybe get a list of names together (petition ala Sydney) to ensure Richmond DO NOT appoint Wayne Brittain as senior coach next year under no circumstances whatsoever?
And we should let it known that we want him gone too, but definitley not senior coach.. It one of about 683 different recurring nightmares Im currrently having regarding our future.
We should let it be known that we will boycott next years matches and membership in massive numbers if this happens!
I know we cant all agree on who we'd like (ala Sydney again) But Im feeling confident we can all agree on who WE DO NOT want.
Thoughts.................

I am not sure if Wayno is just sabotaging Frawley so he can become senior coach and is actually quite clever, or if he is just a seriously bad coach.
I would need some convincing he is not a good option, but if convinced, we should petiton for sure!
I am more concerned about cutting costs and being a viable club long term, than who will coach us to short term success. I would rather petition to get some lawyers and accountants onto the board, and stop recruiting high priced players rather than keeping good draft picks.
If we use our best draft picks to develop good players, it is not only cheaper, but if you then really want to recriut a player from another club, you have many good players to trade!!!

If brittain is still at the club next year, let alone be senior coach, I will not be renewing my membership after 20 years. I've had enough.

Thats what im talking about IITB, but instead of taking the attitude that 'I will not be renewing MY membership', we should pull the numbers together and tell them that 'WE will NOT accept this and 10,000+ of us WILL NOT renew our memberships next year (followed by an exclamation mark for everyone who signs)'.

As long as the club clearly understand what our stance is on brittain, i'll sign anything!!!

Have actually, back in his Carlton days under Parkin, through a mate that has a position of importance with one of their sponsors, but enough of that.
Was a bit harsh of me there, the guy actually came across as a good bloke, chatted for a little while, more than happy to give a bit to Joe Public. However, good blokes don't necessarily make good coaches.
To be clearer rather than being a smart a#se as I tend to do, I don't believe he communicates extremely well. However, that is clearly my opinion and others are free to think otherwise.;)

Since apparently to be a Tigers coach these days you don't need to do much actual thinking (cmon, how long does it take Frawley each week to come up with 'stack the backline and try to punt it to Richo'), maybe we can think more broadly about who our next coach is.
How about Annalise Braakensiek or Tara Moss?
Think of the surge in memberships, and how much attention the players would give to the coach? :D :D :D
Finally there would be someone in footy who gets more coverage than Eddie Mcguire.

Got to worry about David Parkin on an advisory panel to help the RFC select the next coach. He was a big supporter of Brittain succeding him at Carlton. Wonder if he thinks he was hard done by at Carlton and deserves a 2nd chance?

Spot on! I hadnt put that together but scary thought.
Drekka, if you can get Monica Bellucci Im all for it:p
Can anyone set up a site for this petition, hopefully linked from maybe this site and any other non-AFL affiliated Tiger Forums?
I cant belive I am reading what all of yous are writing.....So Frawley goes at seasons end or ever before if some of you had your way. I dont think the problem is with Frawley coaching ability, rather the attitude of the playing group and aslo the majority of supporters. Have all of you given up on the idea of playing finals this year???? What if Frawley caoches this group in to the finals, should he still be replaced as coach? I believe the tigers will make the finals this year, and Frawley to appointed for a futher 2 years!!!

There's a peir in Port Melbourne right?
I suggest you take a long run off it!;)
I agree to a point, the players are responsible too. But that doesnt hide the fact that 9 games out of 10 Frawley and Brittains match day tactics have been atrocious.
And Im tired of Brittain flying under the radar, and am horrified at the thought of him being our next senior coach.

Make the finals!??!
I honestly hope they do and there is a glimmer of hope but have you seen the Tigers percentage...it is lower then Collingwoods.
If they are battling it out for 8th that percentage will sink them below any other potential opponent.

totally given up on finals, the F word shouldnt even come into anyones mind regarding hte RFC.
if your not a top4 team then you shouldnt be trying to make the 8 IMO. in regards to us we are a bottom 4 team
Its time richmond did a complete overhaul in both the coaching and on field list ( the list trimming has started such as last year) but it needs more deadwood cut out.
as for frawley coaching us to the finals, what a joke!

Finishing 7th or 8th would be worse than finishing ninth for the tigers this year. Not only would we get sweet FA in terms of draft picks, we'd also embarrass ourselves in a finals game.

We going to get seet FA finishing 9 or 10 or 11 th as well as last year showed.
Our position on the ladder is irrelevant tough decisions need to be made all round the football club. A winning attitude needs to be instilled.
Despite the loss on the weekend I can't believe the Tiges are where they are at the moment. I really thought they would do wors this year.

If we are going to have a clean out, and replace players with new young draft picks, no issue with me there, but surely we need to speak to prospective coaches now, rather than later when all we will have left to chose from is Big Bad Bob Browning from the Scungewallamythorpe 2nds, and Craig 'see ya later' Lambert.
I will say it again, I CANT BELIEVE What I am READING IN THIS POST. Talk about a negative vibe going into round 10. Give the guys a chance and let tthem be ( encourage if you can ) but dont nock them one week and praise them the next!!!!!! You all make me sick with you talk of replacing the coach and cleaning out the place.
Who would you install as coach istead and which players would you delist/trade? forget I even asked I think your a bunch of hacks any way wit no idea about footy!!!!!

Hey, take a look around the other clubs boards, the clubs that are in the bottom parts of the ladder. They're all talking of tanking games in order for priority picks.
I think you should get off your lil pony, take a good look at urself in the mirror, and SHUT THE F**K UP!

JandS - your optimism in the club is admirable and your belief that Frawley is not part of the problem at Punt Rd is also a beautiful thing. However, I cannot agree with you on that one. Without getting into the whole Frawley thing again as it has been done to death, his record shows that he does not have it. He will be gone at end of year (regardless of where we finish...top 8 or not) and I will walk from here to Darwin backwards and in a nude if Brittain is named coach. No chance!
If Annalise, Tara, Jenna or anyone else of that ilk is named coach, my hand(s) is up to be whiteboard monitor. Not sure whether the strategy will be right out on the ground but the boys will be at attention for pre game speach.

Listen buddy, looks like you've been on here for five minutes and obviously you have a day off from school and some spare time to kill. You obviously also dont know a damn thing about what's happening at tigerland and havent bothered reading any other threads that have been posted in order to educate yourself.
You're obviously comfortable with the fact that all of our losses this year have been in the order of 8 goals or more and the wins we've had recently have been largely due to richo being on song. It's not gonna happen every week and if we dont do something about it now, the club is gonna go down the $hitter. We're in 10th place and have the lowest percentage in the comp. This happens every year. We cannot kick enough goals and we concede more than any other side.
We just fell in against the hawks and were lucky the doggies didnt kick straight.
So do me a favour, if two people are using your name, get your own and be rid of the collingwood reference in your profile. Following 2 teams is for toddlers.

I recon even if our new Annalise, Tara, Jenna type coach has no clue about footy, the lads will have plenty of incentive to play well and memberships will go through the roof. I think we may even steal a few from other clubs. Who would you rather see at news conferences and 'meet the club' nights? Dennis Pagan or Tara Moss?
