Hi Footy Fans...
South coach Robert Pyman has blasted the SANFL for poor match programming, coming after the Panthers' four day break between matches which has and will curse other teams pretty soon. Not that he has used this as an excuse for a loss however, but yes... four day breaks between games are pretty ridiculous and I personally would wish that situation on no-one.
Ah well, here's what happened in Round 8... in this weeks edition of the SANFL wrap-up.
Saturday afternoon up at the Dogs Kennel, Centrals continued their winning ways against South Adelaide who came off a pretty short break from last week. The home side stomped the visitors into the turf right from the beginning, the only time the Panthers outscored the Dogs was in the final quarter where they kicked five straight goals in as many minutes. The reigning premiers won by 44 points, Daniel Schell kicking five goals.
The ABC Match of the Round was set at Adelaide Oval, where the Eagles maintained their streak. This week their latest victim was Port Adelaide who also came off a four-day break and with Mark Stevens at goal, the Eagles made them suffer as he booted 8.4 in a 61 point belting of the Magpies.
The Double Blues hosted the Bloods in what probably would have been dubbed the Match of the Day over at Unley. The two fought out match which saw the Bloods boot ahead to be 17 points up at three quarter time, but the Blues reeled them back in and held them to a mere two points as compared to Sturt's 6.6 in the final stanza. It was the Blues home by 23 points.
On Sunday afternoon, Glenelg found themselves facing the Redlegs at the Bay. However the Tigers did not back down to their visitors, after trailing by 13 points at quarter time the home side showed some true fight and ended up four points in front at the long break. Norwood got ahead again at the end of the third term, but then the Tigers kicked into high gear and proceeded to boot 8.1 to 1.3, handing Glenelg a 31 point win with Paul Allison booting five goals in the effort.
