Hi All
For those of us unfortunate enough to live in Adelaide, the HAWKS SA supporters group will be meeting at the Aviation Club, James Schofield Drive near Adelaide Airport to see the match live.
It is free to enter, the bar is open, and it is in a family environment so your kids can come.
The game starts at 1:30. If you need anymore details, let me know.

For those of us unfortunate enough to support Hawthorn and live in Melbourne the club will be competing in what should be known as the Wooden Spoon cup this Saturday at the MCG.
Despite the clubs involved playing a style of footy barely discernable as AFL standard it will cost around $18 ( free for the poor saps that beleived Schwabs laughable pre season predictions and rushed out to become members ) to spend an afternoon head shaking, hand wringing and groaning loudly. As an extra bonus Simon Beaumont will read a statement at games end outlining why he shouldnt be thrown off the Bolte Bridge for crimes against AFL Football.

Andrew,
Is there anything at all you enjoy about being a Hawthorn supporter? You don't seem to have anything positive at all to say about the Hawks.

I've been a Hawthorn supporter for about 25 years and there has been plenty to to enjoy in that time. Sadly when I see a club being run as badly into the ground as ours I find it a little difficult to sit back and blindly accept the tripe served up firstly on a weekend by the players and than during the week from the likes of Dermie and Schwabby. When I start seeing some more proactivity at the club in trying to match the likes of Essendon in the pursuit of excellence I will be a little more supportive.

To a fair extent I agree with your sentiments. At times we have all vented our frustrations at how the Hawks are going.
However, I feel a part of being a "supporter" is to get behind the club and the people who work within it and offer them support, even though we aren't happy with how things are going.
Schwab, Brereton, you, me ..... we all have one thing in common, we want the Hawks to be successful. I guess I can't see any benefit in continuing to bag the club. That's the sort of behaviour we laugh at from other clubs like Richmond, we don't want to become like them.

I guess the exercise would be to watch the game with other Hawk fans like you would if you were at the game.

Candy,
You make a couple of points that I suppose taken at face value are fair enough. If I had become indifferent about the club as a number of my friends have I would no longer get frustrated by the way they have broken the hearts of so many supporters over the last three years. I have invested a hell of a lot of myself in our club emotionally and financially and like plenty of others felt at the end of last year that good times were only six months away. The Rawlings fiasco was a body shot but I stilll had faith that the people running the club knew what they were doing.I spent all summer counting down to footy season confident that we were on the right track. Now after nine rounds I feel bloody cheated. Barker and Holland are nowhere near the level of fitness we kept getting told. Hay did his knee in a meaningless practice match that L Matthews said he couldnt believe he played in. The likes of McCabe and Tallis are still on the list AND getting senior games. Hodge appears light years away from where we are told he would be. Peter Schwab clearly hasent improved as a coach either tactically or in his ability to improve young players.etc etc.
I will always support the HFC but to do so unquestionably is anathema to my personality. Because a bloke is wearing a brown and gold outfit dosent give him my unflinching support. Unlike Richmond supporters I wont scream abuse at the players or coach or burn my membership card. I wont stop giving my opinions on this or any other forum either.

I'm curious; how does contributing to this board "support" the club and the people who work within it? I would have thought "support" would mean paying up for a membership and then getting along to games and getting involved. It sounds to me that Andrew has both of these things covered. Unfortunately, this year, as in the past couple, supporting the Hawks has been a heartrending experience. If he wants to rant, let him rant, we all need to at times, and if Big Footy is not the place for it, where is?

True, but some people do nothing BUT rant.

About time someone addressed this issue. Andrew week in week out i read the same old same old replies from u not to mention have to listen to the same conversations about the same problems that are reeking havoc with the HFC.
1. Leave Trent alone at least he is having a go. He might not have a football brain but he is playing with his heart unlike some other imposters.
2. U say u are a proud, passionate and a paid up supporter and yes you are entitled to vent your displeasure at the club but how many times do u have to say it??? If it has angered u so much don't go to the games and don't watch them on TV. Can u do this?? Didn't think so, we will see u Saturday!!!
The season is over u and I both know it, lets try to look at the positives that may come out of it and focus on them or u blokes might find yourselves divorced.

Are you a club representative? Is this a threat against supporters who speak out?
PS. You is spelt you.

Yardie thank YOU for the english lesson. After many years of chatting and posting on the net it is a really bad habit. I have been meaning to fix that up.
No threat to people who wish to speak out. What makes you think i am a club rep?? LOL I also speak out where i see fit but get tired of reading the same old things. I am trying to empower people by looking towards some positives (hopefully there will be some).
The final comment was directed at Andrew he will fully understand the meaning of it.
Fair enough My Man Croad. The divorce comment got me thinking about if you were a club representative but as you said was directed at Andrew and is a private joke so I'll leave that one between you two. Too easy.
With all the talk about clubs not liking what they hear on sites like this and all that jazz it just made me wonder if they were out to strike down the supporters.
As for the Hawks. Well your "MAN" has been playing great down back and he should be kept down there as much as possible. Don't necessarily agree with switching him up forward but every now and then should be OK.
Saw some positive signs on Sunday. That was players having a go. I would rather field a team of tryers rather than a team of champions who don't try.
Thought that Thommo should have got a guernsey on the weekend but Schwab stuck with the guys who had a go, so kudos to him for that. But still think that our kicking out tactics were appalling and should have been sorted out by qtr time not half way through the fourth. I still think we suffer tactically throughout matches and don't make adjustments quick enough and this is where opposition teams score quick unanswered goals against us.

I couldn't agree more. Croads lack of football brain really only allows him to play down back and I am happy with him running through the lines and bombing it into the forward line. Then again he often runs with blinkers on and it scares the crap out of me. At least like i have said before he has a go and is playing for the club.
I also agree with having a go it is obvious that we need some major changes from the top all the way to the bottom and these necessary changes hopefully will come soon enough all I ask is that we have a go and they try their guts out at least do it for us supporters.
You gotta question Schwab on his tatics that lost us the game on Sunday why did it take 3 quarters of football to realise that Ball was killing Williams and we needed a tall down forward. Now you made me vent just like Andrew.hehehe
Think Positive, Think Positive!!!

Frankly MY MAN CROAD I hardly think you are in a position to talk about negatives when it comes to supporting the Hawks. At least I still attended the matches last year when things started to go wrong which is more than I can say for you and your other half. I am also a life long supporter/member and not a blow in from Collingwood as you are. If you make one of your rare appearances at the game this week I defy you to remove your schoolgirl like crush for Trent and make an analysis of his performance that isnt based around sexual fantasy.

Take it from me MMC is no teeny bopper but has a liking for the younger, pretty Hawks. Croady and Jonny Hay occupy much of her thoughts in her waking hours ( and probably more in her sleeping ones!).
