Had to laugh at this. I dare say he's like a BMW in a holden car yard. Not much comptetition to challenge for any awards at tigerland. Head and shoulders our best player. How sad.

Nathan Brown has shot out to a commanding lead in the Tigers’ Player of the Year award on the Club’s official website.

The classy left-foot recruit from the Western Bulldogs had been awarded 18 votes up to the end of Round 8 (voting hasn’t yet closed for Round 9) and was 10 votes ahead of second-placed Matthew Richardson, while Kane Johnson was in third place on six votes.


Each week, Richmond supporters are invited to log on to the ‘Tigerland’ website, and cast their votes (in the traditional 3-2-1 manner) for the three best Tiger players of the round.

Brown, who also is more than likely well ahead in Richmond’s Best and Fairest award as we approach the midway mark of the season, has thrilled Tiger fans with his silky skills. He has averaged around 26 disposals per match and has kicked 18 goals in a combined midfield/forward role.

Mark Coughlan, who was shooting for a Tigers’ Player of the Year hat-trick in 2004, has been sidelined for the past few matches with a groin injury. He’s expected to resume in the next couple of weeks, but faces a monumental task to defend his title, even if he can produce a cracking second half of the season, given the huge lead Brown has opened up.

Provided ‘Brownie’ avoids serious injury problems, it’s hard to see him being overhauled by season’s end.

Brown has a good 6 or more seasons left in him Don. You never know, plenty of time to get rid of some dead wood and a coach or two and become a force again. Come to think of it, it is also plenty of time for Hird to retire, Lloyd to lose his effectiveness, Sheedy to depart and watch Essendon become a rabble.

We can only hope.
