He is South African born, but played for Tasmania.
Next 24 hours will see the current batch of matches completed and the averages updated again (the cricinfo averages aren't live stats).
David Hussey has just played a blinder with 166*, Matty Elliott 77 & Spaz MacGill took a 6 for.
But you've gotta take these stats with a grain of salt - especially when you consider Graeme Hick is leading the batting averages with an average of around 107

Care to inform us as to why you feel this way? He is a massive talent. Whats not going right for him?

Well his figures haven't been that great either this season or last, when you sign an overseas player you expect him to be near the top of the club's averages & doing well in relation to other overseas players.
To me the mistake they've made is signing him up on his potential rather than what he can do now, this is wrong for a number of reasons, firstly it turns county cricket into a finishing school for foreign cricketers which doesn't benefit us (in fact we're paying the bloke to learn top maybe one day kick our arse) & secondly if he does become a great player there's no gaurantee that he'll stay at Essex.
I think Andy Flower may have had something to do with his signing, becasue Brant is form Zim isn't he?
The thing is Essex has had some great Australian signings-Border/M Waugh/ Law , they all put in top performances for us but Brant isn't doing it yet.
I don't know what the problem is, it's hard to get to see too much county cricket, I think he's had a few injuries, but possibly he's used to more bouncy piutches & struggles for the right length over here plus Chelmsford where Essex play is becoming a batting paradise a bit like a lot of the English pitches especially compared with the green tops of a few years ago.
How does he go for Queensland? Is he a regular?does he have good figures?
would be interested to know
Great to see the Brad Hodge juggernaut continue with his white hot form. Another 50* (and going strong) against Derbyshire tonight. The form batsman in England this season 650 runs already and he's only into the 1st innings of his 5th match.
Can only hope he continues on the roll when he comes back to Melbourne.
**Edit & Update**
A good night for the Aussies with the bat! (And Key must be close to a Pommy call up - he hit his 5th ton from his past 7 outings)
