Fall Out Boy

Ricky Ponting (capt), Adam Gilchrist (wk), Justin Langer, Matthew Hayden, Damien Martyn, Darren Lehmann, Simon Katich, Shane Warne, Jason Gillespie, Michael Kasprowicz, Glenn McGrath, Brad Williams, Shaun Tait.

Perhaps we've got one too many quickies, but glad to see Shaun Tait get a gig (strictly as cover for Williams).

Stuart MacGill being left out is likely to again raise questions, sadly.

No MacGill or White, read into that what you will.

Will McGrath make the team? He was crap in Zimbabwe and seems out of sorts, will he ever come back?

Well McGrath has effectively been given a rev up by Trevor Hohms, saying he needs to get more pace and fire because he was looking decidedly slow in Zimbabwe. Hopefully it doesn't take too long for him to get back in rhythm.

Without trying to be a smart@rse, Test positions are given out based on performance, not principles.. MacGill's last few Test appearances have been less than overwhelming I'm afraid.

MacGill's non selection is a bit dodgy.

You say he's last few test apperances have been ordinary, which is true.

but the last time a test squad was picked he was in there. There ended up being no tests played, so theoritically (barring injuries) the test squad should be the same next time round...........

Bad blow for Brad Williams

AAP

June 16, 2004

Brad Williams, the Australian fast bowler, has been ruled out of the two-Test series against Sri Lanka which begins in Darwin on July 1. Williams, who was sent home early from last month's Zimbabwe tour with a lower-back injury, has not recovered sufficiently and though he was named last week in a 13-man squad, his selection was subject to a fitness test which was due to be held in Brisbane this week.

Trefor James, Australian team doctor, said, "Brad has not recovered enough from the back injury he sustained in Zimbabwe to resume full training and has therefore been ruled out of the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka."

Williams now hopes to recover in time for the ICC Champions Trophy, to be played in England in September. "It's a disappointing result," said Williams. "I really haven't played that much cricket over the last couple of months and I was looking forward to rejoining the team in Darwin."

"I was confident I'd be available for selection and had started some light training but it doesn't look like I'll be in a position to increase my intensity levels for another couple of weeks. I'll continue to work on my rehabilitation with the guys here in Perth and I'm sure I'll be ready to go in time for the ICC Champions Trophy."

The Australian selectors had not yet made up their mind on a replacement, and would name one in due course.

Watson hit a century in county cricket but strained his hamstring so he won't be the replacement for Williams. Nicholson and Symonds will fight it out now.

nicholson's being considered? what a disgrace... he's done nothing since that stellar season he had for WA and that one test he played...

Langer under injury cloud

Australian opening batsman Justin Langer is hopeful he will be fit to captain the Northern Territory Chief Minister's XI in their match against Sri Lanka starting tomorrow in Darwin, despite injuring his foot today.

Langer was hit on the toe twice while practicing for tomorrow's opening day of the tour match and initial reports suggested he may have been unlikely to play in next week's first Test.

He limped from the ground and was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital for precautionary X-Rays.

However, the X-Rays revealed no break to the foot and a decision will be made tomorrow on whether Langer will play in the tour match.

If Ponting pulls out what are the options? Play an extra bowler, or bring someone else in? Will Gilly Captain? Hmmm.
