Is there any truth to the rumour that Ottens wants to go back to Adelaide? I bloody well hope so because he's a waste at Richmond and us Crows need him more than you guys!!:D :D :D

people are saying its true that Otto is looking at leaving. But you have major competition. Hawthorn also wants ottens. Id suggest youre first round pick and a player will probably see you win the race for brad ottens...thats if he leaves richmond.

LOL if you want Ottens then be prepared to pay up :D
Personally this has been debated a few weeks ago, I honestly think we can build a future out of an Ottens trade, if the right deal is made no one should be off limits.
Others think Ottens is a player you build a team around, I guess I have been very disappointed with his form throughout his time at Richmond.
My perfect example is the St kilda trade of Barry Hall, who is laughing the most? saints or swans? I'd say both are happy.

agree with you coach required.
If the right deal came along (and I agree that would mean a top 10 draft pick and a player), Richmond should seriously think about it. For some reason, I think Ottens progress at Richmond has been stiffled. Therefore, the deal could work out well for both parties.
Ottens used to have a deal with his girlfriend/fiancee that if he quit Melbourne they would move to Perth. She's from Perth and apparently gave up a good job/career there to be with him in Melb.
If he's still with the same girl, he's more likely to want to play further west than Adelaide.
Reminds me of Jules telling one of her boys which club he is allowed to go to.

it would be a shame to lose him as he is one of the few draft picks that Beck didnt totally stuff up.
I mean the whole country was talking about him when he was in the draft so it wasnt too hard to pull that one out.
He needs to be asked whether he really wants to play for Richmond and wants to be in a successful side. its hard to guage from the outside.

Didn't Ottens say (in a newspaper article) that he wants to stay at Richmond a couple of weeks ago?
If this is true and the club really wants to keep him they will re-sign him before seasons end. If he remains out of contract it probably means that they want to explore their trading options.

Here's what Ottens said “I want to play my career out at Richmond and be part of a successful club here."

I cannot believe what Im reading. FFS people, open your eyes. We should be doing everything possible to keep ottens at richmond for the following reasons.
1. AFL's leading tap ruckman
2. Only 24 yo
3. Could finally realise his potential under the right coach
4. Ruckmen/forwards with his ability dont fall off trees.
5. We'd have to find another ruckman to replace him in addition to all the other KPP's we need.
6. Adelaide would get him for nothing if they finish low enough and he wants to go.
7. He's not our poortest player by a long shot.

um 2 things IITB.we can use the hawks and possibly carlton as buffers and secondly we have a pretty good relationship with the crows in regards to trade history.
cheers!

This is worth posting on two threads..
I was thinking about this for a long time and there are basically 2 scenarios with BRAD OTTENS
1) If he wants to stay at Richmond....
We can choose to trade him or keep him
2) If he wants to leave
We have to trade him.
Obvious I know, but this sets the scene for the alcoholics to understand all scenarios.
NOW - IF WE HAVE TO/CHOOSE TO TRADE HIM, we have a massive potential to stuff up another draft year. Yes even if Beck was replaced.
See Ottens is having a poor year by all standards, but he is a very talented tall, who can possibly become a very good player (Top 10 superstar maybe). He is only 24.
As many of you have mentioned, the back up ruckman are Stafford (due to retire in a couple) and Marsh (very unlikely to ever be a No. 1 ruckman.
So if the decision is Otto goes, we either
1)TRADE for a draft pick (and use it on anyone) and a player (RUCKMAN) - Highly unlikely, as I doubt any ruckman worthy (e.g Gardner, Sandilands would leave their current situation)
or 2)TRADE for a draft pick (to get a ruckman) and a player (any position) - Very attractive BUT does come with the risks below.
or 3)TRADE for 2 Draft picks (and use at least one to get a ruckman). - Even more attractive BUT does come with the risks below.
Bearing in mind it may be a tall draft (which it clearly is), there are some gun midfielders that are tipped to fill a heap of places in the top 5, and most likely go numbers 1,2,3 and 4.
At year end with forecast Richmond will end up with AT WORST Pick 4 or 5, and AT Best Pick 2 and pick 4. (assuming no more than 5.5 wins).
Using the scenario, if we finish 15th with 6 wins, we will have pick 3 in the draft.
Hawthorn will pick 1 and 2 (they will defo get priority picks)
The hawks will pick the stand outs and then it leaves Richmond with the Pick 3 option.
Now the best ruckman is arguably Deluca or Meeson, but they probably wont go until the 9, 10 or after positions.
This leaves Richmond in a dilemma. Do we draft the best ruckman with pick 3? Or take the best player regardless of position? (My CHOICE).
But if we lose Otto, we will have to probably bite the bullet and draft a ruckman, effectively wasting the talent of pick 3.
So here is my draft proposal if Otto wants out.
Otto and Fiora to Adelaide
Carr, Pick 6 and Pick 22 to Fremantle
Pick 22, Polak and Sandilands to Richmond.

Do you think a player is going to come out and say he is going to leave at the end of the year to another club??
He probably gets asked all the time and needs a standard answer.
I hope its true though but is it reliant on being on the highest salary.
Id have no beef with him being the highest paid player if he llived up to his potential as he would be invaluable.

CARR is at Port so Adelaide cant trade him
If anyone has really watched the way Ottens has gone about in the last 3 or so years , they would think the way i do and trade him now while his worth is at it`s highest . I reckon i display more passion putting out the garbage bins on Monday night than Ottens does when he hits the ground . He plays Football as if it is the 18th most important in his life . Our history is littered with players that we have held onto for 5,6-7 years because of thier "potential" and have just never delivered. ( we won`t even mention the R word) Richmond needs players with PASSION and vigour . Our list if choca block full of over payed , under performed players . It`s time , and i have every faith in Greg Miller , to draw the line in the sand and not put up with this crap any more . I say two ordinary years and your out

Spot on, IITB.
If he was anywhere else, we'd be climbing over each other to get him to Tigerland.
Brad Ottens = untouchable.

spot on .....I actually like the sound of a potential swap for luke Hodge, he will be a champ ..make no mistake clubs will be cued to flinders t station to secure otto, at 24 he has prob 8 years left
I dont thinks its any coincidence that he has yet to be signed , nor has there been a word of it.....dealings are at play as we speak
