I was watching Richmond Vs Essendon in 95 and i was wondering what happened to Jerica? cause he looked like a good player, he could take some strong grabs and kick some good goals.
So can anyone tell me what we did with him?

I've seen Stephen Jurica's name appearing recently as an example of bad recruiting. I don't agree because he did an admirable job filling in for Richo when he injured his knee.
Anthony Banik is another I think is unfairly put in the dud category. He was good for a couple of years and looked like he would develop into a top player but unfortunately became ill which ruined his career.

Banik was like Josh Fraser and Adam Cooney in their respective years of being drafted - by far the best young prospect in the land at the time.
Anthony Banik stepped into the Tiger backline in Round 1, and almost instantly became a key player in an otherwise very substandard line-up.
Unfortunately, an unforeseen and debilitating illness ruined his playing career. Probably nowadays he was very treatable, given the advnaces in sports medicine.
Up until that moment, he looked like a certain future captain of the club. He was beautifully balanced, with a remarkably mature football brain, and an inherent toughness in his playing style.
If we had not drafted Anthony Banik that year, our recruiting people should have been strung up. It was just damned unlucky, that's all.

Talk of Jurica reminds me of Aaron Rogers. (I think he was the guy.. The one who went from Rich to Coll then back to Rich). Would promise heaps in the 2's but just wasnt top level talent.
To be fair Jurica did suffer injuries, to his back I think, much like Banik with glandular fever or whatever that was. On thing Banik had for him was the bady of a mature age footballer almost straight away. At 16 he was built like a 25 YO.
I used to have a poster of Banik on my bedroom wall. Given it was a shirtless and sweaty photo of him pumping iron, perhaps my mother was right to query my sexuality...
She didn't complain about the Jeff Hogg one though.

Aaron James ? Feriss
The media calling him the next Wayne Carey certainly didn't help his cause.

Didn't Aaron James get in trouble ****ing on a couple of girls at the Saloon Bar in South Yarra at one point?
Whatever happened to Brett Evans? I think they called him the Birdman?

Aaron James did get into a bit of bother for giving 1 or 2 girls a golden shower on the dance floor. I noticed he kicked 17 goals in a suburban match a few weeks ago.
I saw Brett Evans at the MCG last year watching Richmond. It was a big ask for him to hold down CHF when he played because he wasn't tall enough. I believe his nickname was "birdman" because he raced pigeons.

jurica now works at a reputable melbourne law firm as a lawyer. Behind that brutal face of his is a brain.

Jurica did play well that particular year and was later traded to Hawthorn where he didnt really get into the side.
In fact, I think we won the reservers premiership in the late nineties where Jurica was in fact playing against us for the Hawthorn Reserves. He was delisted shortly afterwards.
Frawley didnt like Brett Evans.
I remember him getting his final shot against Hawthorn where he was up in the forward line.
One contest - didnt take the mark - off the ground and then on later and - one contest - and then off the ground and that seemed to be the end of him.
It seemed like Frawley was only putting him on the ground so he could say he tried him, but his mind was made up as he felt we had too many big men.

He did WHAT?
That's the grossest thing I've ever heard of from an AFL footballer...I presume the girls didn't give consent?

He got the boot from Mick McGuane's Gisborne a couple of years back too not long aftera bit of nastiness on the club's end of season footy trip.
Very odd fellow.
So when Dermie said Aaron could be like wayne carey he was right!

Dont laugh at Dermies' comments about him being the next Wayne Carey.
Obviously Richmond sat there while all laughed and believed it and ended up drafting him.
As for the showering he gave on the dance floor,
You wouldnt want to spit on him at the end of the game.
He would be able to fire something back!!!
Steven is a very intelligent guy. even when he 1st came to the club he spoke like someone well above his age. I was his player sponsor back then (in an age when i had a lot more spare money) and i remember he was studying to be an opthamologist.
good to see that he stuck with some form of study.
saw him on the field last week and looks as strong as an ox.

Good to see him keeping his own in this thread amongst the Tiger turmoil.
Coach resigning, rumours about captain not being there, what coach will be here next year?
and the big bloke still getting his thread up there. Great effort.
Had to keep it going with this post. Can he coach by the way????
you never know he is a fairly smart guy.
actually probably to smart to take on our coaching role.

Another gross incident involving an AFL footballer was Justin (brother of Shane) Crawford at a table in the Casino.
Apparently he was on a bit of a roll and didn't want to give up his seat so he could go for a slash. So he just rolled it out there and then, under the table, and let fly (flow?).
Unfortunately for him, the Casino have cameras under the table (to catch cheats) and caught him in the act!
