RICHMOND FOOTBALL CLUB

MEDIA RELEASE, JUNE 28

Richmond coach Danny Frawley today advised the Club’s administration that he would not be seeking reappointment at the conclusion of his contract. He will remain coach until the end of the 2004 season.

Danny has shown great confidence in the playing group and feels despite all his best endeavors, he has not been able to achieve the results he both expects of himself and the members expect of him.

The Board of Directors, players and administration were informed of his decision today.

“It has been a tough call to make because of how passionately I feel about my coaching role at the Club,” Danny said.

“By taking this course of action now it gives the Club the best possible chance to actively enter the market place for a new coach without any constraints.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Club for the strong support it has given me throughout the past five years.”

Club president Clinton Casey complimented Danny on his selflessness, great loyalty and his strength of character under the extreme pressure of coaching the Richmond Football Club.

“Danny’s legacy to the Club will be felt for many years to come. His dignity, morality and his courage under fire will be instrumental in life lessons the playing group will carry over to the next era,” Clinton said.

“His decision will alleviate the continual media pressure on both him and his family.”

Danny Frawley, Clinton Casey, Wayne Campbell and Greg Miller will be available for comment in the Board Room at Punt Road Oval today at 4.30pm.

First-gamer Shane Tuck will be available for interview immediately following the media conference.

Good to see Tuck getting a game this week, wonder how many will bother to hang around for this.

I'm glad he's staying on until the end of the season. He's a terrific person but unfortunately not a good coach. Good luck in the future Spud.

I agree! For once we are going through a change of coach with everyone's dignity intact!

Yeah, CJ. That was an amazingly dignified exit by Danny. And congratulations to the way our heirarchy have handled his resignation so far. A very pleasant change from our history of bloodletting.
