View Full Version : Darren Bradshaw - why did we get rid of him?

I miss Darren Bradshaw. He was excellent in the reserves and I think if we persisted with him he would have been a handy full forward for us.

He was my second favourite player behind Copeland. Bushy is my favourite player because he is from where I used to live, in Kilcoy.

When I think of Darren Bradshaw I think of what could have been for this young lad. But now that Bushy is playing, all is good.

From the little I saw of him, he appeared to be a 6'1 bloke looking to play a key forward position against blokes who are between 6'3 and 6'7.

10 - 15 years ago you could get away with it (Doc Wheildon, Alan Jakovich) but these days you would have to be a super player to pull it off in the AFL.

no room for him, daniel will take over as soon as lynch hangs up the boots.
we also dont hav hav the luxury of keeping players that may be good in 5 years, such is the salary cap pressure theyre always looking to free up the list.

Is this a serious thread ?

Unfortunately the bloke was undersized & extremely slow. If you saw him play in the SANFL last year you would also notice he is now far too overweight to play AFL. He will always be one of those blokes that will be a good player at the next level down but never good enough to make the highest grade.

He was a fish out of water the one AFL game he played.

Is he not playing back in country Victoria now??

We let him go, and then his SANFL team let him go.

FWIW Darren left West because he wanted to, not because the club made him. The official reason was that he wanted to go home, while earlier in the year he was reported to be only at West to keep his chance of getting back in the AFL alive - when it became clearly evident his would not happen, he wanted to go home.
What's to say he wouldn't want to go home if he had stayed at Brisbane?

I don't think anyone's having a go at West. I think there's every chance he would have gone home had he stayed at Brisbane.

He was a good ordinary footballer, I guess. Not particularly huge, or lightning fast or athletically gifted.

Sometimes you can still carve out a career if your lucky (cheers to Franky Peckett) but most struggle sooner or later.

It may have something to do with the fact that he couldn't obtain the simple George Thorogood principle "two cokes, two bourbons, two beers!" (I think that's how it went?)

Braddy got: "one chance, one kick, one game!"

Any chance of Daniel Bradshaw leaving the Lions? Would be great to have down at Sydney.Does he like it up there?

Keep your mitts of Daniel.

Didn't Darren win the SANFL goalkicking last year. That would sugest he is a good goalkicker,or the SANFL is crap.

Yes he did, and I'd suggest that he's both a good goalkicker (well, he started off as one anyway) and that the SANFL wasn't that good last year.

He's had a few opportunities to leave over the years but seems very settled here, having recently bought and moved into a bigger house. Sydney, Geelong and I think Hawthorn have all had serious tilts at obtaining his services, all refused.
