Essendon captain James Hird will miss the next three to four weeks with a broken rib. Hird will be released from hospital this afternoon after spending last night there as a precautionary measure. He did not require any surgery.

Tests this morning revealed Hird's internal bleeding had stopped. The blood will be allowed to naturally dissipate rather than being removed surgically. There has been no damage to internal organs.

Hird sustained the injury after a heavy clash with Richmond defender Ray Hall. He left the ground immediately and was taken to hospital for observation.

Yeah I know poor bloke.
Nothing but bad luck...he is a bloody superstar 90% of the time when he plays. Was watching tele and apparently he had contemplated finishing, but within 12hrs,he was asking when will he be alright to play again :p

The rest should do him good, he's looked a bit weird lately.

He certainly has looked bad and it made me wonder if he had finally had enough. Now this injury and the club Doc stated he was considering calling it quits! Hope that's not the case and the rest will recharge him to finish out the year.
