Allan Hopkins died today aged 97. He was the oldest living Brownlow Medalist. Hopkins was the stand out player in our early days in the VFL.
He kicked 7 goals on debut in the VFA in 1923, an incredible performance for those days. Hopkins carried on a link that went almost to the dawn of our club as his father, Con was an early player and official of the club.
Most of the old timers I have spoken with say that Hopkins was a better player than Whitten, and second only to Vernon Banbury as the greatest player the club has produced.
RIP Allan Hopkins-A true Bulldog/Tricolour legend.
