Seems like 20/20 is becoming what ODI's were in 70's. Going to make it's international debut next year when we take on the poms.

What do you think would be our best XI for the format? Same as the current ODI side? I think there are 3 major factors that will influence change in selection.

1- great emphasis on economical bowlers, little chance of bowling a side out in 20 overs. Interesting to see what will happen to spinners. I think there will always be room for quality spinners but average spinners might struggle
2- greater emphasis on attacking batsmen. Average of about 20 would be fine as long as it was quick
3- less depth needed in batting line up

Here's my best XI (guessing Warne's ODI retirtement applies)

Hayden
Gilchrist
Symonds
Ponting
Lehmann
Harvey
Clarke
Watson
White
Gillespie
McGrath

I'd think they'd go for a side full of all-rounder types. Blokes who can roll the arm over for 2-3 overs and also score runs.

Hayden
Gilchrist
Lehmann
Ponting
Clarke
Symonds
Harvey
White
Watson
Lee
Gillespie

Bats all the way down and only three of them don't bowl (and Ponting can bowl if desperate). Also a good side in the field.

I would be loading the side with batsman and all rounders who can bowl those little "darts".Players who can take the pace off the ball and get it in flat and cramp the batsmen and force them to make the pace.I wouldnt be picking to many specialist bowlers.I couldnt see them being to entertaining.Give me test cricket anyday.

That's the team that I would have.

Watson would have to be a shoe in. Hits the ball hard. Very hard.

Probably harder now he is in QLD ;) Wont be knocking ice off the willow on the way to the middle. :D

But yeah, he is a stereotypical all-rounder. Slams the ball, Symonds-esque. When he hits it, it stays hit.

1 Gilchrist
2 Hayden
3 Ponting
4 Clarke
5 Symonds
6 Watson
7 White
8 Lee
9 Tait
10 Gillespie
11 McGrath

Non bowlers Hayden, Gilly & Punter.

No Boof, I'd like to see this comp used to expose some youngsters ahed of the next world cup. However Dizzy & Pidgeon have to be in the first XI because they are so economical.
