There's probably already a thread on this, but I don't care.
This show is so slow, boring and simple that you'd be excused for thinking it is a first-year university assignment. The two main characters, Ryan and that hot chick (not sure of name), barely say 3 words each in their conversations, and yet the viewer is supposed to be hooked to the tv in watching their growing love for each other.
Most of the characters seem to be shocking actors, and the predictability of the storyline grows with each week. All up you'd have to think the show has nothing to offer apart from copius amounts of quality eye candy.
In saying all this, I am hooked and haven't missed an episode.

Trust me it'll only get better; especially episode 10 onwards.
I've downloaded the whole series and watched it months ago.
I missed the last 15 minutes of tonight's ep. Anyone care to fill me in?:p

Pretty much agree with all of what you said.
I think what saves this show is its sense of humour - from people like Seth and Sandy.
And I don't think the producers or others involved in the show really take it too seriously.
Tonight in the opening scene the new well endowed girlfriend of Alan Dale's character (Seth's grandpa) comes out of the pool in a blue bikini accompanied by cheesy pop music, and boys ogling her - and then Seth comes up with the line, "Oh my God, that could be my grandma."
Silly stuff, but very addictive.

Does it seem to anyone else EVERY single episode revolves around someone throwing a party and something dramatic happening? lol.

Heh, I've seen the whole series also. I always get addicted to these type of shows, even though I know they are crap.

* Kirsten's father (Seth's grandfather) came to visit, with his new 24-year attractive girlfriend.
* Kirsten has been working for her father, who basically owns Newport. Very rich guy. Sandy does not like him and wanted Kirsten to quit the job.
* There was a huge party at thier house to celebrate Kirsten's father's birthday.
* Seth went to the party with Summer, who was chatting up the attractive guys. Seth was sick of her stringing him along but she kissed him.

* The attractive girlfriend then kissed Ryan, and did it again at the party, when Marissa walked in.

It's alright, but nothing too special. It's pretty boring and stereotypical, but oh well. I only watch it for Mischa Barton :p
Suffering in the ratings by all accounts, same as when it was on 9. Could just be a crap show.

I love it, it's so addictive! Definately my fave show at the moment!
I can't believe it's struggling in the ratings?! Everyone I speak to - uni, school friends, work friends - they all love it.
Some of the spoilers I've read ahead about are :eek: :eek:

The show is strangely hypnotic, it's average in so many respects, but yet, I can't look away, I can't leave my seat for the whole hour.
Looking back, I think the fact that it's always summer and the chicks are regularly bikini clad at the beach or in the pool has something to do with it.

For some stupid reason (only Southern Cross would know why) they are repeating last season. As I only watched a few, it's strange they are calling it the 'new' series, but obviosuly it's not.

First four eps were shown on Nine.
These eps were repeated on Ten.
The eps on now are new.

Why was there a change between networks? Was Nine disappointed with their ratings, or did Ten offer more money or something?

It did pretty poor ratings on Nine when it was tried over a couple of weeks over summer.
Ten and Nine came to an agreement and Nine sold the series to Ten.
Its ratings haven't been that good up against shows like CSI, All Saints and The Bill. However, it may be able to get a couple of viewers by word of mouth, so hopefully Ten stick with it.

The 2nd season hasn't begun in America yet.

I thought tonight's episode was definately the best we've seen so far. I loved it how Ryan took on Julie Cooper :eek: Go Ryan!

I loved it when it started on 9 over summer, and was really disappointed when they took it off. I missed a couple of eps in the middle, not knowing it had transferred to 10, but am now back in the swing :) And now half my class at uni is hooked, which is rare - in 3 years I don't think this many of us have ever all liked a show at once, so it must be doing something right!
But true, Mischa Barton cannot act...
