 Judd Lalich? Am I mistaken or did he show some form on Friday night against the Bullies? I thought he played quite well although my heart was in my mouth everytime he got the footy. You can't doubt the lad's endeavour and perhaps, just perhaps, he might be one of those late bloomers. Maybe. Well..it's possible.. isn't it? Nah, I guess not.

yeah, i thought he did some very good things. Hopefully he might have even silenced a few of his 'critics' in here a little bit. Man, some people are so quick to jump on a guys back. Give him a ****ing chance people! (ok, a few chances. But tThink to yourself - would they bother with him if he was a 'dud'?)

Although, i must admit cringing a little bit every time he got the ball......for his sake. Just saying to myself "come on, please do something with it this time!!!!"

And how's Henneman's 'bounce'? :D Poor guy.......he must have felt like a dill! But he'll learn not to take anything too easy after that. :)

I must admit, I was surprised at Judd's speed.....he's pretty quick for a big bloke! If he had some 'football smarts' he might be a player. He was getting enough hitouts, but they weren't going to anyone.

Were you a fan of Benny Doolans?

Yes, and then giving away a free kick after that for over the shoulder. He also did **** all in one on one contests. He needs to bulk up, and fast.

He has plenty to do.Prefer Hille any day over him

I think that Hille has shown bugger-all in the talent and skills departments.

I'm not saying that he won't get better with age and experience but at the moment he has trouble knowing when to jump and he looks like a Steve Alessio type speed-wise the way he lollops everywhere.

Can't say that I'm a big Hille fan at the moment. Stick with Lalich for a while until Hille gains more experience. He's not quite ready for the big-time.

Judd apparently, shows great application to his fitness, and is one of the hardest workers at the club. That is probably what has kept him on the list so long! His skills are a bit shabby, but apparently, he can run all day, and it a great club man.

Well played On Friday, Judd.

Judd is the fittest bloke at the club
in his first season at essendon he broke the afl record at the "beep" test and and still the best at the club today

his fitness has always been his strength and was basically drafted on that basis
his skills have developed and have really come on well this season

great game friday night and i think there is enough evidence to suggest he is worth something to the club

Agreed Walshy,

Maybe he is worth keeping on the list after all.

Yeah Judd is a great player to have on your team in those untimely situations.

Nah - you guys don't need Lalich. You may as well trade him to freo at the end of the year.

We'll give you a reasonable deal - couple of mid range draft picks maybe?

Judder has shown a few knockers that he does have some talent..

Most Ruckmen/Talls take quite a while to mature.. (Simon Madden being the exception)

I think that Judd/Allessio will be our ruck combo next year... with Hille comming on over the next 2-3..

Just opinion tho'

I used to coach Judd at basketball when he was 15. He has always been athletic and very quick for his size, although his skills weren't sensational, he always worked harder than anyone - a very good mental trait to have!

Stick with him Bomber supporters when he starts getting regular playing time, he will reward you.

This thread came up when I googled "Bigfooty Essendon".

Some of the comments remind me of people's perception of David Myers :p

Start of Essendon's horrendous recruiting. I'm not sure how he stayed on the list after 2000 TBH. I guess they thought he could replace Barnes as in he could pinch hit with Hille and Alessio? Actually looking at his stats, he really did nothing.

To be honest, I barely remember him.

In fact I don't at all, apart from the name, and images that I've seen since then.

I can't remember Forster-Knight apart from the name.

Nor can I remember much of McGrath, apart from that snapped goal against North in R.16 2001. Davies, McAlister, Hunt are others.

i actually remember that game against the bulldogs when he showed a bit.

I was always one of those fans who wanted him to do well and took a bit of an interest. It is funny to see these old bumped threads though....

it just shows how cyclic football is, we always think new things are happening but its the same old storys time after time after time.

I remember looking through old threads and finding one about how Hird needed to retire after a poor game game against Carlton I think, then bombed it on ANZAC Day 2005.

If you find the video of Moorcrofts Mark of the Year, Lalich is involved in the passage of play. Thats pretty much all I remember of him.

not to mention a right foot kick from Lucas.....

Judd lalich would have been more suited to the way it's played now with a ruck that can play another position, however, needed to play both positions better than he did.

Had some tools, but never got it together

i kinda remember an untidy shag of hair, a set of almost permenant thick skin coloured hamstring warmer tights underneath his footy shorts and 2 black gloves. He kinda looked ungainly running down the wing bouncing the ball..... a bit Kepler like actually.

Haha.

Judd continues to haunt Essendon, 10 years on.

I remember him because his first game was to replace the injured Hirdy.

One of mates said, "geez he even looks a bit like him, i wonder if he can play like him"....we watched Lalich for a while bumbling around like a new born giraffe, before going...."hmmmm no!"

had no idea who this guy was until I read this, even still it only rang a very distant bell

Wasn't he knocked out cold in a game at the dome against Adelaide, then late in the last quarter we had the game sewn up and Sheedy was supposedly trying to get him back out on the ground to "send a message to the opposition"?

Think it was in his last season and then he was a runner...

I think James Hird should stop stroking his own ego and let Michael Long become captain.

What is James' problem? He never plays. Wouldn't it be more beneficial to the club to have a captain who can be relied upon. Then there are Hird's off-field commitments as well that take up time.

Michael Long deserves to be named captain of Essendon and James Hird should be man enough to accept the he no longer deserves such an honour.

It was weak of Essendon not to sack Hird and install Michael. However, we should have never been put in that position. James should have relinquished the position himself and let Long take over.

To be fair Hird had hardly played for 3 years & it was unknown at that time if he'd play much footy again. His foot was a time bomb that could go at any time. It wasn't such an ridiculous thing to say. The stuff about his ego was a bit over the top though. Micheal Long probably shouldn't have been made captain to honest. He was also chronically injured & was half the player he once was. Sheedy loved him so thats why he was captain in 99. Lloyd was young but would've been a great captain at this time as he was at the peak of his powers with a great team around him. Instead he was made captain with a weak team & he became riddled with injuries himself. He won't go down as a great captain. Being a great captain in footy is a lot about timing & luck. How does Harley go down as agreat captain? He was lucky to be in the first 15-16 players picked yet because Geelong was a great team he's goes down as a 'great' leader.

Hahah ! I can`t tell you how badly I wanted to see Micky hold that ****ing cup up in `99. No Lucas, a fact that is often overlooked, didn`t help.
