Just heard his dicky shoulder should ruin his series.
Does this have any impact on Warne trying to gain the record...albeit for a brief amount of time.

The next question is does anyone except Warne and the memorabilia marketers really care?

Word is he'll also miss the Nat-west Champions Trophy - a series where they will be using hi-speed cameras to study chucking in spinners. Coincidence?

What kind of response are you looking for?

The ICC have announced that they will not recognise Shane Warne as the leading test wicket taker because Muttiah Muralitharan is injured.

Shane Warne now has the four tests in India to take 6 wickets and become the leading Test wicket taker. Looking at the fixture, I reckon Shane could hold the record for 12 months and more.

his shoulder??? Was that a repetetive strain injury due to bowling or did he take a dive?

Some talk is it might be a shoulder reco, which is a year

Book him in for an elbow reco at the same time.

Radio report that surgery will probably be done in Australia. I'm sure we all hope that goes just swell.

Is Murali gonna whinge about how the Aussie doctors might deliberately get a knife into him so that Warne can permanent get the record? Better watch Ranatunga coming out and say how he doesn't want Aussie doctors doing the op

Murali always comes to Australia when he needs surgery (he has had serious shoulder surgery here before) and he certainly gets excellent care from his Doctors over in Melbourne.

Shame about the injury, he should've taken more time off as was envisaged before the Australia series. At first they were talking 6 months. Now it's looks like it's going to be a few months anyway.

Sad news.

Of course he'll come to Australia for treatment, they're head and shoulders above any sort of technology Sri Lanka have.

Warne will have the record all on his own for quite a few months. I don't think Murali is work risking for the Champions Trophy.

I can't wait for the Indian Tests, most awaited test series in 2 years.

I know many people who bought the Mat Hayden 380 ones :D :D :D

Back to Murali: It sounds pretty bad, doesn't it, the shoulder. It doesn't seem to be your normal damaged shoulder, perhaps it'd be way, way more complicated. A arthoscope would probably be done, but perhaps the damage is such that he'd need a shoulder reco, coz it sounds like he's in a lot of pain.

If it's anything complicated, it'll probably be half a year, if it's a shoulder reco, it's a year to get it back to full strength. Also means he just won't be the same ever again.

Maybe this injury will make it unable to chuck the ball. And, thus, will return with figures of 0/1700 in test matches before he is finally dropped.

the amount of times he chucks the ball, doing his shoulder in was bound to happen.

Well, I guess at least he's going back to have another go. Unlike another bowler who averages 116 here in Aus.

If Murali does need reconstructive surgery on his shoulder, he should go to the States....there are a few surgeons there that have heaps of experience working with some of the best pitchers in baseball.

Actually, Red and Black - that's pretty much the response I was looking for. Great explanation of where the chase is at.
Going to be interesting about how Warne record focused the media will become during the series in India isn't it!
