Was just thinking who the players that Essendon Fans have loved to hate over the past 10 years? Here are some I regard as the biggest hacks to play senior footy for the bombers since 1994.

Daniel Mcallister (sheedys pet, but eventually even he lost patience)
David Calthorpe ( Waited unitl state of origin to turn it on and play one of the few good games of his career)
Mark Fraser ( should have taken up umpiring a long time ago)
Ryan O'connor ( Perhaps my number 1 player I loved to hate in this time. I couldnt stand him.
Andrew Bomford
Ilija Grgic
Barry Young

Im sure there have been more but these were my favorites. Feel free to add.

Bit harsh on O'Connor he wasn't blessed with a lot but gave it everything he had.

Barry Young played an important role for us, wasn't one of our all time greats but wasn't a hack. Held a spot while the likes of Johnson, Solomon etc developed.

I remember seeing Danny Mc play for Tassie, he was awesome. Can see why he was taken so early, but unfortunately it doesn't always work out.

Andrew Ukovic was ordinary.
Todd Ridley, Shawn Lewfatt.

Dont agree with Barry Young thought he was reasonable value for us.
Mark Fraser could play but he was very soft. Good while we where looking good, not seen when we wernt going so well.

McAlister, Trevor Spencer, Michael Werner (I know these are a bit older but) Dean Wallis for all bar 2000. Aaron Henneman, Todd Ridley, Ben Doolan, plenty more - will have to think about them.

Bradley Plain was a great small forward when he wasn't injured. You could always count on him for 2 or 3 goals. He was a hungry forward but he knew where the goals were. Why was he regarded as a hack?

Didnt think he was that good at the Dogs before he did his knee.
Will be pleased if i am wrong but i belive there are too many others in front of him now. Will probably be more next year as we are bound to draft another midfielder early.

He is an absolute spud. Unfortunately it appears Sheedy has adopted him as one of his project players and Im almost certain that we will be seeing plenty more of Aaron Henneman running in and kicking straight into the man on the mark.

Of that list, Calthorpe, Fraser and Young were all good players, with Young very unlucky to leave the Dons.

I remember Robert Stevenson and Matthew Banks playing on Sav Rocca once or twice, are they 'good' enough to go on the list?

Seriously I may have sold Barry Young a little short looking back. But Fraser and Calthorpe were hacks who's good games for the club I could count on one hand. Geez Calthorpe gave me the schites when he tried to dodge and weave his fat little arse around guys and then deliver a 40 metre wobbly punt to nobody in particular. Yeah weve had worse players than these guys over the years but these 2 would have to be some of the ones that really gave me the schites.

My duds would be Shaun Lewfatt, Tony Antrobus, Tony Delaney, Ed Considine, Robert Stevenson, Matthew Watson, Doc Weildon, Ben Doolan (how he played so many games is beyond me), Aaron Henneman, James Davies, Daniel 'Goosestep' McAllister, Ilija Grgic, Judd Lalich, Todd Ridley, Bradley Plain, Julian Kirzner, soon to be Darren Walsh ... the list goes on! We've had our fair share of duds!

BTW ... Kieren Sporn was not a dud .. nor was Hills. He was an unlucky footballer with injury.

Don't know if this fits into the time frame but a guy by the name Adrian Burns. I think he ended up at St. Kilda. Could not stand him.
McAllister has to win being a 4th draft pick and the only high draft pick we had earned for about ten years. What a waste regardless of his talent at the time.

I would have twatted anyone who even dared mention the classy No.23 Peter Cransberg. Round 22, 1997 was my most tearful day spent at the footy. Not because Princess Diana died, not because it was Mark Harvey's last game, not because our team contained the likes of Doolan, O'Connor and Cockatoo-Collins ... but because it was the game the legendary Peter Cransberg went down with 'another' (sob! sob!) knee injury ... this one ending his career.

Loved the bloke. Gave his all for the footy club and was another unlucky with injury. :(

Well, if that's what you believe, then I guess I'll be taking little notice of anything you post in future since you obviously don't know anything about football.

Smokin was a ball-winning machine in his day who always used the ball well. I remember him leading the total possessions back in the days when Greg Williams was running around.

Either you're too young to have been watching football back then, or you're just very dumb.

I must be getting old if no one here remembers the legendary 23, Trevor 'What's a Footy' Spencer.

This guy must have been an animal rights activist so abohorrent was the feel and touch of leather. He simply refused to touch the ball and frankly proves that AFL is a game that any person can play.

Other than Spence, I would throw that numb nut Manton in their. OK so he managed a few games for the Blues but the one or two he played at Essendon were appaling - lose the elbow support idiot and wrap it around your mouth.

Last nomination is the mighty Aaron Henemman who single handedly has made the legendary number 3 gueuernsy a thing of revulsion. To think that ******** Reynolds once graced the footy fieild with this number - he must be doing cartwheels in his grave

Your right you can express any opinion you want, doesn't change the fact that you've obviously got no idea about the game if you think Misiti is a hack. And Im sorry Cransberg and Grigic were hacks. If you'd not had your head up your arse for the past 10 years (which you obviously have if you believe Misiti was a hack), you would have also realised that Brunswick is becoming (or perhaps, has become?) a rather trendy and expensive suburb that is home to all kinds of people these days. In fact, if you'd not had your head up your arse for the past 10 years, you would have realised that pretty much ALL suburbs in and around the city have taken off over the past few years and are now rather sought after and rewarding places to buy houses.

Of course, being he of no clue, you're probably just dirty that the investment property you bought in Frankston a couple of years ago hasn't quite paid off the way you thought it would.....

I cant believe no one has mentioned the "model" himself, Ricky Olarenshaw, this guy always used to give me the sh_ts. He was excellent at the start of his career, but in the end injuries hurt him, but also he didnt look very motivated for playing footy, instead he seemed more interested in his performances on the cat walk and nightclubs.

Ryan "rhino" o Conar was a joke, good for nothing and overweight. Plus he had red hair. In the forward line he was worthles, i can atleat remember 6 times when "rhino" missed set shots 10 metres out directly in front. In fact, from what i remember, the only purpose he served was as a back up ruckman. Makes you wonder he stayed at the club for so long.

Shawn Lewfatt is another classic tale, just reading kevin sheedys book "a touch of cunning" kevin predicted he was going to be something special, and it seemed like he was only recruited because he was aboriginal.

Peter Somerville is also another that brings back so many bad memorys.

I think you guys are very harsh on Barry Young, he was fantastic for the bombers in 1999. I enjoyed watching him play, espicially in one the best games i have ever seen, when the bombers played the kangas. It was great seeing barry frustrate carey lol.
Barry was also pretty good in defence in the 90s as well for us.

Mark Fraser was great to watch when he was on fire, i really do wish he could play like that every game for the bombers, he would break the game open like longy, in a way. Could never understand why he could only play 2 or 3 excellent games a year that drop off.

Well, judging by your reading skills, your writing skills, and your discussion/debating skills (not to mention the fact you think Misiti is a hack and that Cranbourne is a good place to buy an investment property!), I struggle to believe you're any older than 15.

You can keep trying though if you like!

If you really are older than 15, then I'd be ashamed if I were you - start listening to your teachers kiddo or you'll be stupid for the rest of your life!

And Misiti was no hack. In fact, he'd be a hell of a lot closer to "champion" than "hack."

If you really are older than 15, then I'd be ashamed if I were you - start listening to your teachers kiddo or you'll be stupid for the rest of your life!

And Misiti was no hack. In fact, he'd be a hell of a lot closer to "champion" than "hack."1-In fact i have seen him play and still thinks he is a Hack.
2-Maybe u didnt say they are hacks, but others did.A on what what critia do u base the fact Misiti isnt a hack?.

Might want to read up: http://www.essendonfc.com.au/team/player.asp?id=31

Add the two premiership medallions, 600+ possessions in 2000, and the fact he led the league for clearances halfway through this season, despite playing off the bench and being in his last season.

Cranbourne!

Well, have fun waiting for the "Cranbourne Boom!" which should happen in about, oh....say 20-30 years?

As for your mates in "Bumswick", they'll be raking it in NOW. (and for the past 5 years, and forever...)

Oops.

I guess your "Bumswick" insult doesn't seem so clever now, does it?

If you were up my arse, then you would have been at the games with me week after week when Misiti dominated and we walked out all talking about how many touches he'd had today......."Just a lazy 35 today for Smokin Joe.....hit the target every time too."

Or are you deaf as well as stupid?

Misiti a hack?

You can't be older than 15 surely.

Aren't you a little young to be owning investment properties anyway?

yeh who ever said misiti is hack is kidding themselves. and if ur 14 or whatever shame obviisuly a bandwagon supporter like every single brisbane fan! i only 16 and no misiti was no hack!

I want you to reply to me as I have to you by using correct spelling, proper grammar, and a well-structured argument.

Until you can achieve this small simple goal, then I'll continue to believe that you're a stupid 12 year old kid who can't spell, has no grasp on correct grammar/punctuation, and thus is not old enough to have seen Joe Misiti at his best or to have any clue as to which suburbs are good for buying investment properties.

Bradley Plain was a great small forward when he wasn't injured. You could always count on him for 2 or 3 goals. He was a hungry forward but he knew where the goals were. Why was he regarded as a hack?
Reciever with a capital R..... refuse to pinch in for the contested ball...only played one game with North and that's because Pagan lured him over... never been a fan of such a reciever and we have Shane Harvey now who is that kind of cheap and cheesy player... (ex-Bombers mind you!)

Definately the biggest hack to play for essendon in the last 10 years is Matthew Banks. Didnt play many games but almost single handedly lost us the anzac day match a few years back when he was killed by Sav.

But your argumentation is about as well structured as that of a 12 year old who has a crush on 'smokin Joe'.By the way,i see you didnt attack the person who said James Hird is a 'hack',so does that mean you agree with that statement?.

Feed in all the factors, mitigating or otherwise, and Misiti comes out on top of Mercuri. Hacks don't play in premierships seven years a part. Neither were hacks of the EFC.

How so?

I've explained why Misiti is/was anything but a hack.

So have others.

Your best effort so far has been:

"1-In fact i have seen him play and still thinks he is a Hack."

You're definitely one dumb person, regardless of how old you are!

By the way,i see you didnt attack the person who said James Hird is a 'hack',so does that mean you agree with that statement?.

There's no need to place a full-stop after a question mark. And try hitting your space bar after you use a comma.

I'm not sure I understand why someone thinks misiti was a hack? Maybe their definition of "hack" is different to mine? For me, a hack refers to someone you'd be better off without!

So, I wouldn't say that misiti was a hack - he may not have had the "silky smooth" type of skils nor was he a glamourous type of player, but he was hard working, effective & a great winner of the ball.

Essendon is a greater club for his contributions both on & off the field.

Just my opinion :)
