From Warren's column on the club website last week:

"TERRIFIC

Getting on the selection committee"

Does this mean that Damon will see finals action?

Is this why Choco mumbled at a press conference two weeks ago that everyone was telling him how good Damon's form had been?

Could Warren prove to be the Ace in our "selection committee" pack?

There may be some hope out there afterall. :)

Well all of us who enjoy the odd bit of surfing are quite aware that September is when the sharks start to become active, so quite possibly The Great White may well be our weapon of mass destruction!!!

To me it seems that a few things are working in White's favour when it comes to him being retained in the team. It will be interesting to see again whether when these contributing factors are no more whether Damon will keep his spot.....I fear not….

Contributing Factors:

Round 8 and 9 > Comes into the team and retains his spot for a week due to a significant injury list of 10-12 players

Round 16 > Returns to the team due to an injury to Bishop and suspension of Cochrane. Bishop's injury meant the possible need of Thurstans in the backline.

Round 17 > Keeps his place in the team due to an injury to Ebert, even though Bishop returns.

Round 18 > Lost his spot due to the return of Ebert, Cochran and Monty.

Round 19 and 20 > Returns again and maintains his spot when Brogan is injured meaning Thurstans to be used sparingly in Ruck.

Round 21 > Will, in all probability, retain his spot (or else Alberton will be torched) due to the injury to Tredrea....even though Wilson, Brogan and possibly Pickett will return.

It will therefore be interesting to see whether he will be retained for Round 22 given the probable return of Tredders (and barring any further injuries).

We could do worse than having the Monolith telling Choco what's what...

Exactly right.

One assumes that with Wilson and Pickett coming back, Cochrane and Poulton will automatically get dropped this week, purely because for all of us, they are recognized as the 21st and 22nd players, although some would have Schofield pushing for that honour. Somehow, I would not be surprised if Cochrane maintains his position. He really seems untouchable. Just don't get what the coaches see behind the scenes, that I am completely missing.

Even assuming that Cochrane and Poulton do make way for Wilbur and Byron, the following week with Tredders' return to the side, it seems virtually a foregone conclusion that White will get the chop.
I don't think Williams will play 8 talls if he can help it. Dew has survived in the side throughout so many poor showings, one couldn't see him falling out of favour after an average showing against the lowly ranked Bulldogs. Schofield will survive selection. Hardwick is a must for the finals. Pickett could be averaging 1 touch a game and Williams wouldn't drop him for September.

Basically, unless we play 23 players or unless there is an injury to a tall, Damon will not play in round 22 or the finals.

His only chance of representing our team in September is if we have a disastrous week one and Choco is forced to drop underperforming players.

It is a shame, but it is reality. Even Tredders on the selection committee won't be able to change that which is set in stone in the coach's mind.
