Geelong hand Alberton first loss

Albertons dream run in the Sweet FA came to an end tonight, losing by 52 points.

Geelong won the match in the second quarter, piling on 5 straight goals to finish the game as a contest. Alberton fought hard to get back in the match in the third term, kicking 7 goals but Geelong again pulled away in the last quarter to win by the final margin.

Groove continued his outstanding form with 7 goals for the Swamprats. Santos L Helper played his best game this season pulling down 10 marks and kicking 2 goals, whilst _espoir kicked 3 goals to get back into form. The midfield was well beaten for the first time this year

Scott injured a shoulder and should miss a week whilst tall forward Russian will miss 2 with hamstring.

Macca19 was dissapointed by the result, "[i]Look, it was a dissapointing result but there were some good things to come out of it. Its a good reality check for us that we have to continue to work hard to improve and progress our game. Groove was outstanding again. Young _espoir came to me during the week and asked to be moved to a new position but she stayed in the forward lines and really showed something with 3 goals. Dyertribe was good again running out of defence. Santos was great at Half Forward.

"Our defence was very poor as a whole. We really need to train hard in that area of our game to get it up to an acceptable level. Our midfield was down on past weeks and thats where we lost it. We will regroup, change the team around a little bit, work on our deficiencies and come out next week looking for our 4th win"

CATS GET THE CREAM AT ALBERTON

By Minutsu Fukunichi, of The Tokyo Momma

The Sweet FA leading Alberton Swamprats were dealt a harsh reality check at home today, going down to a rampant Geelong Gumbies to the tune of 52 points.

In a game where nothing seemed to go right for the home side after quarter time, Geelong piled on 8 goals to 3 in a blistering second quarter that laid the foundations for the upset, going into halftime with a 40 point lead.

While Alberton made a spirited comeback, getting to within 10 points at the 13 minute mark of the third quarter, the Gumbies were able to pull away again, eventually going on to record a famous victory in style.

Rizzo and Unwritten_Law were the chief architects of the victory for Geelong, with fine performances also coming from Jim Boy, GeeCat and phatandphreaky.

It was a different story for Alberton however, with only a select number of Swampies able to hold their heads high after a performance bordering on abysmal. Santos L Helper, Groove and _espoir kept the team in it thanks to their superb goalkicking, with Crazy Big Al doing his very best to compete with Geelong's magnificent ruckman.

To add injury to insult, selection headaches abound for Alberton captain and chief of selectors Macca19, as the Swamprats will have to do without Scott and Russian for the next couple of weeks, with both men suffering shoulder and hamstring damage respectively.

Geelong came through unscathed on the injury front, however dynamic captain and centre-half-forward Catman was controversially reported and duly suspended for one week for bringing the game into disrepute.
