View Full Version : Stingers - the end is nigh
70/30 probability the last ever Stingers episode is being filmed this week.
Cast & crew aren't being informed until filming has been completed on Friday.
If it is the end of the road - shoddy treatment with programming from 9 is to blame. This show was their number 1 rating show last year and they bump it back to make way for CSI repeats, take it off the air for 2 weeks for the crap reality tv etc etc etc
Fans of this show - stay tuned for media outlets for confirmation next week.

So another bites the dust? It's a shame, because I was starting to like watching it, used to also enjoy Water Rats before it got dumped.
Bloody stupid if it is axed.

Yeah me too! I only just started this year.
Quality show that even the cynics like Brian Courtis and Nicole Brady from the Age/Green Guide have been giving good reviews too. The storylines have been outstanding and the acting as good as we've seen, but it looks like another local drama will go down.
If they replace it with the Alice....expect a fair bit of backlash for a quality show to be replaced with tripe that will not rate.
If ch9 axed it,ch7 should pick it up.In the US sometimes shows are axed and picked up another network,so why not here ?
Years ago JAG was axed by NBC,but got picked up by CBS and its still a big success in the US.It now even has a spin-off - NCIS.

Bugger. Because it's an Australian show it'd be more difficult to get info for it on the web, but are there any decent places for fans of the show? This year isn't the first time it was shafted/shifted to the 10.30 time, the first time it did years ago I lost track of the show altogether.
How do you know this, if I may be so bold to ask?

I am surprised that would dump it now that it has started to get some better storylines on it, it had a few storylines that weren't that great, but this year has been pretty good.

Idiots in Sydney have no idea
How on earth do we know if the sources are correct ?
Sources are 100% correct. Producer/s, directors, cast and crew are the source.
Attended the wrap party on Sat night and even the exec producer hasn't been informed of the decision. Appears as though one Mr Packer, yes the Goanna (not the programmers) will be making a judgement call later in the year.

A story in todays Green Guide seems to spell the end of Stingers. It says Gary Sweet has signed on for a 4 week guest role on Blue Hillbillies ,which will air early next year.
It also doesn't help that ch9 took Stingers off this week and replaced it with a 3 year old repeat of CSI.

Phelps looking to dabble in politics, Dermott bloody Brereton allowing to guest star - they seem like nails in the coffin, but that news about Sweet I don't know how to take. Stupid question - but can he do both of them at the same time? Probably not.
Heelers is our version of Cheers or something like it. You can connect every Australian actor that's basically 'recognised'/of note through their appearance on that show.

Typical wait until it gets better then decide to dump it, they should of considered this during the time when it was crap. I mean, if it was dumped a couple of years ago I would of agreed because some of the shoes during that period lacked quality,
It looks as though ch9 have just about finished killing Stingers. It's now not on tomorrow night, nor next week.
Feck you ch9.
Stingers has been given the axe
Top cop show given the axe

CHANNEL 9 has axed its Melbourne produced cops series Stingers after seven years.
While the network had not officially announced the decision late last night, Nine's head of drama, Posie Graeme-Evans, was phoning cast members yesterday informing them the show would not continue next year.
The police drama premiered on Nine in September 1998 and, after a slow beginning, grew to be one of the network's best performing dramas.
The last two years saw the show's ratings slip around the country.
The future for the show seemed bleak this year when it was moved to a 10.30pm timeslot.
Stingers lead actors Peter Phelps, Kate Kendall, Gary Sweet and Jacinta Stapleton are now out of work, although Sweet has a six-episode guest stint in Blue Heelers early next year.
With the axing of Stingers, Nine will now announce that its successful Aussie telemovie The Alice, which starred husband and wife acting team Erik Thomson and Caitlan McDougall, will be a 22-episode series to screen next year.

YOTR - make sure you vote for him (wouldn't mind having a Logie sitting on the mantlepiece). :D
And the final episode is airing on 9 next Tuesday night, with the young fella (Lidge Jnr) getting more than his fair share of air time.
