We need significant game time for these up and comers in preparation for 2005 and against a side which will play hard and desperate football more.

I would play Robbo on Lloyd as he broke his neck last year .....get him to play from behind

Grant on Lloyd and Bowden on Lucas.
Lloyd has been killing us everytime we play them so with Harris once again having a holiday Grant will at least have to start on him. We need an attacking player on Lucas and I've wanted to see Bowden tried as a defender for a while now.

With Harris out, there is no real matchup for Lloyd anyway, certainly not Basset. Leave the back six as named. Hargreaves can at least stay with Lloyd on a lead and won’t do worse than anyone else as long as he resists the temptation to wrestle with him. Lucas could play anywhere. If he goes to half forward, Grant can pick him up. The worst place for Grant is stuck back in the goalsquare minding the faster Lloyd. Mid field dominance and pressure on the Essendon midfielders are the areas that need to be developed. That’s why another developing midfielder should be preferred to Basset. Whilst I am happy to see us lose on Sunday, I don't want to see a blowout. A terrific result is a narrow loss to stop Essendon building percentage and perhaps missing out anyway whilst we still get 3 and 6. A big loss is guaranteed by trying to contain Lloyd using Basset. A far better showing is guaranteed by getting first use in the middle and running with the ball. Lloyd kills us because the blokes further up the ground allow the Essendon midfielders a free run to deliver to him on the lead – no pressure.

Don't forget about Watson - and they may use Lloyd as a decoy with his bung shoulder.

Shaggy should try and wrench the shoulder around abit. A few good bumps, a good yank during a wrestle and a decent whack in the marking contest etc could just about even the match up a bit. :rolleyes:

Lloyd acts like he is the most placid person looking for free kicks but he will try and clean up an opponent given any chance.

That's not leadership, it's just stupid. I love Grant, and think he'll play on and all that, but Lloyd would eat him alive on the lead. Grant wouldn't get near him.
Grant on him with say Monster filling the hole might work, Grant one out might be a problem.

Lloyd is going to eat whoever we put on him alive.
Grant would prefer to see a kid (hargraves) like hargrave not have his confiedence shattered.
Grant could atleast play on Lucas. As apposed to Watson who he will probably play on. Players like Hargrave should be be played on these type of players, this is how they develop, not thorw in the deep end. Grant can prevent this by putting up his hand and saying "ill take lucas"
