View Full Version : Why does the VFL have a top 8 in a 13 team comp?
What is the reason for this, seems a bit strange? also, where do people see the VFL going in years to come? another question, why are there two teams with the same nickname werribee and coburg tigers? and why do the box hill hawks have a seahorse on their jumper or something that looks similar??? seriously...

The Box Hill emblem is a Mustang .
Coburg is nicknamed the 'Tigers' because they're Richmonds VFL affiliate.
Werribee, who are the Bulldogs affiliate, have always been known as the 'Tigers'.I'm suprised the haven't changed to the 'Bulldogs'.

Coburg used to be the Lions.
And they were the Lions along time before Fitzroy changed their name in the late 1950s.
It is both silly and stupid to have two teams with the same nickname and also a final eight -then again an idiot like Gannon is in charge. Say no more!
cheers for the info guys!!!!

Its going nowhere jimmy just look at the pathetic crowds at the finals these days I drove past the Yarraville ground on Sat where the WDFL were holding their finals and they would have had twice as many people in attendance as the VFL did at Port Melb.
Its now a competition without spirt passion and soul and thats why the football public and former VFA fans stay away in their droves.

Yes I think would have been lucky to get 1,000 on Saturday and well below that on Sunday for a Port home game.
Whereas up in the Ovens and Murray it was a different story.
They were disappointed with the crowds on the weekend. Sunday was a wet day as well.
I don't think the VFL would complain about 2600 and 2000 turning up to EF & QF finals
Transcript from the Albury Border Mail
"THE Ovens and Murray league's decision to schedule the qualifying final between North Albury and Corowa-Rutherglen at the Norm Minns Oval backfired on Saturday.
The official crowd of 2602 people and gate-takings of $9106 were both down on the record takings of 12 months ago despite the brilliant spring sunshine.
The O and M battled competition on two fronts with the Ovens and King league second semi-final played at North Wangaratta and the Murray Bushrangers versus Bendigo Pioneers clash in the under 18 TAC Cup across the road at the W.J. Findlay Oval.
In contrasting conditions yesterday at the John Foord Oval gate takings for the Lavington-Wangaratta elimination final were also down on last year's figures.
A crowd of 1994 people paid $8774 to watch Corowa-Rutherglen down Wangaratta Rovers at Yarrawonga last year with a crowd of 2027 paying $7094 yesterday"

Just imagine the crowd for the Grand Final if the Devils get in... The poor attendences is a concern.
I also went past the Yarraville ground on the weekend, and they do manage to draw a decent crowd down there.
Must be a bit of a concern that the showpiece of Victorian football doesnt have a stronger following at the moment.
cheers,
ons.
