Just announced on 10 proir to the match that this will be Campbells last game as captain.

And in quality commentating Brian Taylor announces he's retiring full stop, just seconds after being told it's just from the captaincy...

Farewell to someone who seemed to be an indifferent captain, at least from my perspective.

Retiring? thought he was gunna go another season? but its better for the R.F.C if he does and also himself! times right for him. if he did continue i would nt see him doing to much more than he has done this year, which isnt alot. to old for the game!

With Wallace as coach, I think its a toss up between Brown and Richardson. However, I think either Johnson or Coughlan would be best suited.

One this I disagree with is this #17. I dont think it should go to the captain. Even though I didnt see Jack play, I would rather other players made their own number. Richardson as 17? Coughlan as 17? Johnson as 17? I dont think it fits.

you misunderstand, he has given up the captaincy not retired. he WILL be playing next year.

To award him the captaincy would be the making of Brad Ottens.

The major problem with this, however, is perception. It would seem as though he was given the captaincy to keep him at Tigerland, depite him being the obvious candidate for the job.

Consequently, I think Johnno will get the nod.

With Wallace as coach, I think its a toss up between Brown and Richardson......I think Richo withdrew himself from the leadership group last year and has no ambition to be captain. If I recall correctly he was captaining the side the night he infamously gave up on a play when Knighter bounced the ball in front of him on the lead and also abused the crap out of Rodan for fumbling a handball in the goalsquare. I'd have either Ottens or Johnson. Probably Johnson as his love for the club is well documented but if giving Ottens the captaincy keeps him at Tigerland then I'd give it to him. Oh yeah and Andrew Raines wears no. 4 next year.

Coughlan > K.Johnson

Cheers

Some of you may think he is too young just yet, but you only have to look at the Roos appointing Carey in the early 90's or more recently Eagles Appointing Cousins, to notice that its not such a crazy idea making a young man captain.

He has leadership skills written all over him you cant argue that!

he has really been good these last two games considering how long he has been out for, i wouldnt be against him being made captain.

Bowden would have to be some sort of chance for the captaincy..

Bowden would have to be some sort of chance for the captaincy..Johnson or Ottens for mine.
Coughlan seems very ill at ease doing media which is a big part of the captaincy.
Wouldn't be fazed if Cogs got it though.

Johno No thanks

Joel Bowden has played for Richmond from day1 and the fact he has changed his game since playing in the seconds and watching that Foxtel Interview with him should be enough for Terry to give it to Joel. He loves this club more then anyone and has shown that during the interview.

Note to Danny! when you said who you think could be next in charge you left out Joel whats the go?

Joel for Captain.
Coughlan/Johno Vice Captain

Would be a big mistake to give it to Cogs . He has a really big future ahead of him but it is all based potential . It is the same thing we have been doing for decades now....... Seeing a young bloke put 10 - 20 games together and hailing them as the next messiah ? Remeber the likes of Justin Pickering and Des Ryan? they were going to conquer the world as well.

Coming back from pretty serious injury he needs to be given time to establish himself at the "elite" level and we really should just pull back a little and not put too much pressure on him .

A season and a half do not make the player . Johnson for mine

Players who love the club dont always make good captains.perfect example Richo.
Granted Joel has had a fantastic 2nd half of the year however he dosent inspire as a leader.he,s too aloof.Gifted yes-leader of men No.

cheers!

I cant wait to see the back of campbell. He is by far the worst captain in the AFL. Dont play on wayne. Retire immediately. You give us nothing with your crap little kicks.

We certainly hail young players who have shown that they can simply make AFL players only because they are contrasted against such a poor middle leadership group. These guys who made thier debuts havent yet shown they will be half the player Cambpell will be as yet.

Without doubt the worst 4 time B&F, 3 time runner up in the B&F, 2 time All-Australia player of all time, if not the worst player ever.

Everyone on our list has already proved they are better than Campbell simply by being on the list.

prediction-cambpell will be given similar treatment to knights but only with a bit more dignity, excpect to retire at end of year

Ottens is the logical choice, could be real good too if he got a bit of aggro into him like Staff, just not as reckless or obvious.
