Last weekend was the final round of the home and away season in the ACTAFL. The finals system is 1vs2-winner straight through to the grand final, loser plays winner of 3vs4 for the other spot in the grandfinal. So while first isn't that much better than coming second, second is alot better than coming third.
Queanbeyan and Ainslie were both competing for second spot on the weekend, both on equal points and Queanbeyan the slightly higher percentage. Ainslie then came out and thumped Tuggeranong by 120 points. Queanbeyan required a large victory against Eastlake. Eastlake kicked the last goal of the match after the siren and it sent people to their calculators working out who finished second.
It was worked out that Queanbeyan had a percentage of 161.5% and AInslie 161.4%! After all this was done it was discovered that when Ainslie played Wagga in round 1 the score was 11.5-72 when 11.5 is 71! If the appeal is upheld and the score is changed from 72 to 71 then Ainslie move 0.01% ahead of Queanbeyan.
THis would have to be the closest finish between two teams ever and I guess the moral of the story is that every point counts!
