View Full Version : W.Hughes big decision
Understand W.Hughes will have to choose between Fitzpatrick and Blackwell for the father/son. Has been seen in Perth a lot lately might be keener on Blackwell. Just hope he gets it right imagine if Fitzpatrick gets picked up by someone else.(189cms key position) What are your thoughts. Big Decision

IMO i dont think Blackwell fits any of our roles at the club. We are looking for quick midfielders and flankers and well he reminds me of plunkett to an extend, skills but no pace. I cant bare to see the name Fitzpatrick get chosen by anyone else.
Mr Hughes rates Plunkett very high and has been spotted at many Nth Ballarat games this year. Would Plunkett and Blackwell add to the squad.
Jimmy won't come back to Carlton, he is enjoying it at North Ballarat and I hope he stays there :)

jst want to say that i have seen fitzpatrick play many times and he simply aint up to it...his father was a championbut hi9s son should not meven be in the oakleigh squad if ya asked me...and as for blackwell i think he shoud not enroll for the draft ths year and have another year in the wafl and next year he can put himslef in the draft...blackwell can play but needs time

Don't take either of them! There are better kids available in the draft. Rookie list Fitzpatrick if we have to because I doubt whether any other clubs will touch him. I think we made the right decision with Cam Hunter, lets not get too sentimental with former player's kids if they basically don't 'cut the mustard'.
As i understand it, we can pick both under the father-son if we wanted. First father-son choice costs a round 3 pick (#41), we can use a second if we choose but it would cost us our round 2 pick (#26) - so ain't gonna happen this year.
I don't think Fitzpatrick's in the running, Blackwell might get taken, depending if there's 40 other candidates rated ahead of him or not, more or less.
Blackwell continues to perform week in and week out. If we dont someone else will. Fitz is likely to be told wait one year so we can see if he fills out and develops further. Also 189 KPP. What??????? Might be good enough in juniors but not it AFL. Would have to be sensational to fill a KP at that height.

Exactly Tara....we would be silly not to draft him with our 3rd pick. Inside midfielder who gets plenty of the pill with good skills is something you should never turn away.
110 games for Carlton = F&S
112 games for Claremont = nothing for WC (Freo don't get a look in for Claremonties, despite half our original squad being Neesham's Claremont buddies).
I understand the reasoning behind the 150 game rule for WA teams (have a choice from 4 teams, not just the 1), but considering the transfer rules in the 80s restricted players from moving to Vic before they had played 100 games, there are very few who hung around the 2-3 extra years to get to 150.
Monteath and Delmenico are others who miss out on the 150 rule, but played over 100 in the WAFL.
Good luck for you with them, hope they get homesick in a few years though :D

Difference between Plunkett and Blackwell is that Plunkett had no skills.
Difference between Plunkett and Blackwell is that Plunkett had no skills.
Blackwell isn't that slow either.
