west coast footy manager trevor nisbett today re stenglein trade:
South Australians Butler and Waters have been mentioned as players that could be traded to get Stenglein to West Coast, something Nisbett denied.
"They're off limits. No chance," he said.
"I think everyone's seen what they're capable of in their first year.
"We drafted them with a specific purpose and they're fulfilling that already and we think in the future they're going to be terrific players for us.
"Adelaide know we wouldn't contemplate trading them."

Well, well i guess if that is the case either we get a different good player for stenglien or he dosent go to wcoast it is as simple as that :). I am sure Craig sees it that way as well.

We will wait until the 'last minute' to do a deal though.
Wirrupunda WILL go back to Melbourne and we will pinch your d/p that you get for him.
If not, then welcome home Beau.

well apparrently not many wcoast fans really want him
Trev Nisbett isn't the footy manager, he's our CEO.
As a general rule he's a bit different to the McGuires or Coless of the league- very rarely has anything to say about anything, and on the occasions when he does speak up he is usually direct and honest and to the point.
On past form, if he says Waters or Butler will not be traded to adelaide this year, then there is absolutely no chance whatsoever that they will be traded to adelaide this year.
I'm even willing to put my money where my mouth is on that subject. Anyone want to take a $20 bet that neither Butler nor Waters will be playing for Adelaide next year?

That would be a silly bet for anyone given that the Crows have said they want a 100+ game player (not Butler or Waters), and considering the multiple ways the deal could be done.
You must be a bookmaker ;)

Hell, if you really like I'll make it any of Kerr, Cox, Waters or Butler, and offer
$10 at 2 to 1 odds against any of them ending up at Adelaide next year Any takers?
Also possibly looking at offering a $3.20 Quinella on Fremantle getting horrifically burnt in a trade with at south australian club, and Collingwood offering Leon Davis for Warren Tredrea. ;)

After consulting my crystal ball I have seen that AFC & WCFC will not come to terms on a trade and after lots of lobying from AFC players & coach (stinger we love you we need you we want you to be captain yadda yadda yadda) he will stay here rather than going into pre season draft & then probably to Melbourne.
If a Melbourne club doesn't pick him up then we will re draft him before either WA club gets a look in anyway & we will be sure to tell him so.
I would still rather have Beu Waters though.

Butler is a Gawler boy and very good friends with a couple of my mates and I've been trying to get the gossip from them. All say that he's very happy over there and there's no way he'll be coming home and Waters is pretty keen on staying too, but there's still a tiny chance he'll come home. I'm hearing this from his Xavier College and Gawler Centrals mates, so blame them if he does end up coming home. Not me.

Im mates with Beau's best mates and they have said he IS homesick. This doesnt mean he is coming home or has got the wheels in motion or anything, personally I think its normal for an 18y.o but who knows its a starting point for the AFC.

Does Beau have a brother whos 8yo or something?? Ofcourse he'd be home sick and I'm sure Butler is too, but I'm hoping as hell that they won't leave and as most people have stated the eagles are very good at keeping any interstate players and I'm sure its something to do with them helping out with the homesickness. I heard both were allowed to skip wafl play to go home over the bye weekend
I do know that Butler is doing some work at a high school near me, I work with a couple of girls that go there and he helps out for one of thems sport class. So the eagles seem to be organising stuff to help them settle in

Ahh no!
Beau seriously wants to come home, and alot of close friends and someone you could call his footballing mentor are trying to talk him out of it. Its not just small case of homesickness it is a pretty serious issue at the moment.
I didnt expect this from Beau after having a conversation to him 3 days before the draft, he was so excited to go go over there.
Beau is a tough lad so there has to be something pretty serious for this to occur.
I have stated before I want Beau to do what is best for Beau not what is best for WC or the AFC for that matter. I would love him here but I also dont mind seeing him playing good footy for the Eagles and if that is the decison he makes I wish him the best of luck.

I didnt realise it was that bad for him. I can imagine it would be pretty hard on him. I couldnt imagine moving away at 17. If he does that desperately want to leave I'm sure the eagles will sort something out. They wouldnt make him stay if he didnt want to.

if he was desperately homesick at the end of next year, i'm sure the club would trade him back home if he asked to be.

i wouldnt be suprised if that is the case either because Im pretty sure the Eagles will want to keep him on the hope he will come good.
But the Eagles might also think that it is serious enough to suggest he wont come good, so they might be better of trading him this year when they know they will get something in return for him. Who knows, Adelaide might not have anything to deal with next year?
im not saying I think this will happen but I am just throwing a few ideas in the air.
I hope whatever happens Beau goes on to play 250 games regardless of which club he pays for.

Most young players will experience homesickness. The clubs allow for it and work through it with the players, most get over it.
But if a decision is put to you to return home in the middle of your hmesickness bout, your going to make a decision that you may not make in a further 12 months.
Good for us hopefully.

if he's still really homesick next year, then we may have to sort something out. but, there is a chance he will get over his homesickness and be fine. if it is true, its really suprising because he was one draftee who openly admitted he was fine leaving SA.
the problem for us is that if waters leaves then that will make it hard for us to keep butler. they are both keeping each other going from what i have gathered from afew articles written on them. beau will be home next week so hopefully he can forget about his homesickness, and be able to tell everyone he's an afl player give out some eagles gear and feel real good about himself.
Waters and Cooney at the crows next year?
Yes thanks.
